From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Drop-D, also called, The American of North and South or “El Americano de Norte y Sur.”

He is a Bolivian/American Latin pop artist. Drop-D, but named Daniel Reyes, of Bolivian origin, from the city of La Paz but currently living in California, United States in the city of San José.

Origin of the name: The name DROP-D is the initials of the artist, Daniel Reyes-Ortiz Prudencio and is also a musical tuning for guitars. It also comes from his love of electronic music, where the best part of a song is called the "Drop."

Genre and Influences: His genre influences are reggaeton, urban genre and electronic music. Among his musical inspirations are Bad Bunny, J-Balvin, Daddy Yankee, Nicky Jam and many other artists of the urban genre.

Drop-D composes, produces and sings all of his songs in his home recording studio.

Debut album and Hit songs: His debut album called “Mi Destino” was released in January 2021 and his first single was “Sube,” alongside Bolivian artist Nicky Glam, who is also his sister, Maria Nicole Reyes. The first single, “Sube” is about love and heartbreak but in a positive way. It's about the love dynamic when you want to get over the people you love. Sube, also conveys the message that we all have the desire to go up in life in every sense but we have to do it in a good way, without stepping on people and without using people. “ yo sólo quiero que te subas,” “I don’t want you to fall,” the lyrics say in the first verse. After all, “love is about wanting the best for the person you love, but sometimes that love is not reciprocated,” says the artist in one of his cited interviews. “The song Sube is just what we need for a time of pandemic, where we all need a lift of spirits and happy songs without forgetting the seriousness of what is happening and the great suffering of many people.“Sube” is a very catchy song that can't get out of the head of anyone who listens to it. The artist invites everyone to "sube-mania"”

The music video for “Sube” is now available on YouTube. The video tells the incredible story of an alien who wishes to infiltrate planet Earth and then finds himself banished without rescue. And the only thing he wants is to go up again.

Family and Influences: The title “Mi Destino” was given to his debut album because Drop-D has been making music since he was 13 years old. He was the singer and drummer of a rock band called “The Figureheads,” where he featured with his brothers Andrew and Gabriel Reyes. So, Drop-D's destiny is to make music and gladden the hearts of all his listeners. The figureheads' music is also available on all digital platforms.

The 12 songs of “ Mi Destino” talk a lot about love and heartbreak. The songs are bilingual in English and Spanish but mostly in Spanish. The 12 songs on the album are very varied musically but are very similar and complement each other lyrically.

Histeriqueo: On the album, Drop-D invents a word, “Histeriqueo,” which is also the title of the second song. This term is repeated in other songs such as the song “Mi Destino.” Histeriqueo is the toxic dynamic that exists in many relationships, where games are played and what is broken is quickly thrown away without trying to fix it. But it is also a term that means many things, such as partying, fun, playing, dancing. Histeriqueo is a term synonymous with rumba, dembow, guayando, bacilando, tusa, candela and presea, which are terms heard a lot in reggaetón and Latin music.

Creative Process: Drop-D puts a lot of thought into his lyrics and the different metaphors he uses. He tried to use funny references and double meanings that everyone can relate to and try to make the songs catchier so everyone has fun.

Spare time: When he is not making music, he likes sports, he is a fan of the Bolívar club in Bolivia, where he played until he was 15 years old. He loves everything creative.

Other works: He is also a book writer. His first book in a trilogy of books, “The Essences.” It has just been translated into Spanish and will be published very soon, available online on Amazon.
