Digital Design & Creative Technology (DDCT) edit

The Digital Design & Creative Technology (DDCT) is a faculty at King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in Bangkok, Thailand. DDCT provides Bachelor's Degree programs in Animation & VFX and Game Design & Production, as well as organizing Camps and Workshops for both undergraduates and high school students interested in digital arts and creative technology.

History[1] edit

Mission edit

The program enables students to concentrate on video game and animation design, emphasizing proficiency in Scripting Language for game development. It includes designing game prototypes, foundational skills in various game genres, and aims to cultivate understanding and appreciation for Game Design & Production principles, with the goal of making interactions informative, engaging, and enjoyable.

Programs edit

DDCT offers a variety of educational options to art and game students. These are:

Digital Design (DD)[2] edit

The DD program is designed to offer students a comprehensive understanding of technology, artistic skills, and system design. Beginning with fundamental theories, the program seeks to establish a sufficient and easily understandable foundation for students. It progressively introduces more intricate principles, aiming to enhance students' capabilities for undertaking larger and more complex projects over time.

Animation & VFX (AV) edit

The course teaches students to depict people, animals, objects, and virtual environments. They commence with basic paper drawing and advance to 2D designs and simple animation. Subsequently, they transition to 3D designs utilizing programs such as Maya, Zbrush, and Blender, where they generate models and animations.

In the third year (for those continuing studies in Thailand), students specialize in areas like Concept Art or Visual Effects. They use tools such as Photoshop, Maya, Zbrush, Blender, and Adobe After Effects.

Game Design & Production (GDP) edit

The course encompasses a range of courses, including general, design, art, programming, and more. In GDP, students concentrate on designing and creating video games using scripting languages and suitable engines. The courses aim to develop students from game players to game developers, imparting critical thinking and strategies for engaging gameplay. The course also teaches about game genres, the production process, and the use of programs like Photoshop, Unity, and Unreal Engine for scene creation. The curriculum incorporates coding to enhance students' skills in game development.

Computer Technology (CT)[3] edit

Creative Technology integrates knowledge from Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Mathematics, and Physics with Liberal Arts and Design to promote digital innovation, encompassing simulations, visualizations, and games. Through hands-on team projects each semester, to gain technical expertise, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork proficiency, teaching them for careers in the industry.

Interactive Simulator (IS) edit

The major instructs students in math, physics, and computer science, covering programming, databases, networking, computer graphics, and artificial intelligence. Each semester, students engage in practical projects to enhance their problem-solving and communication skills, with a focus on software development to become proficient developers. Upon graduation, they have the opportunity to pursue careers in various areas, including advanced graphics, animation, game programming, virtual reality, physics engine development, and interactive technology.

Game Engineer (GE) edit

The Game Engineering (GE) major, integrated into a broader computer science program, imparts knowledge about game design and practical software development skills to students. They explore game design principles, programming languages, data structures, and more.

Throughout the program, students engage in team projects, applying communication and problem-solving skills to develop games or interactive applications. This practical approach allows them to apply acquired knowledge in real-world scenarios, enhancing their proficiency as game developers.

Upon graduation, individuals with a GE degree have the opportunity to pursue various careers, such as contributing to game planning and design, creating game features, and playing a vital role in video game development. The GE prepare graduates for versatile roles in the continually evolving field of game development.

International partnership Programs edit

The Dual Degree program by the DigiPen Institute of Technology, in collaboration with Thai educational institutions, allows students from Thailand to study their first 2-4 semesters in Bangkok and then continue the remaining semesters at the DigiPen campus in Redmond, United States.

During the initial two years in Thailand, students follow a diverse curriculum covering subjects like Computer Science, Animation, Video Game Development, Game Design, Sound Design, and Computer Engineering.
