Désirée Lim (born July 4, 1988) is a philosopher based in State College, Pennsylvania at the Pennsylvania State University’s philosophy department. She works primarily in the area of political philosophy, with a special interest in the ethics of immigration. Her first monograph, Immigration and Social Equality: The Ethics of Skill-Selective Immigration Policies,[1] was published by Oxford University Press in October 2023. Lim received her undergraduate education at the University of Edinburgh, where she studied philosophy and English literature, and obtained her doctorate from King’s College London, after which she was employed as a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University’s McCoy Center for Ethics in Society, directed by Rob Reich.
Lim is also a poet whose early work has been published in a number of journals and compilations, including Quarterly Literary Review Singapore.[2]
Lim is the first cousin of the award-winning comic artist Sonny Liew, who introduced her to the thought of Ludwig Wittgenstein.
