Platform(s)Ethereum, Ronin, Polygon
ReleaseMarch 3, 2021
Genre(s)Collectable

CyberKongz is a community-based NFT project launched on March 3, 2021.[1] The collection encompasses four distinct generations: Genesis CyberKongz, Baby Kongz, CyberKongz VX and Genkai.[2]

The original CyberKongz collection, also known as the Genesis collection, commenced with 1,000 unique NFTs, each minted for 0.01 ETH. CyberKongz #810 was retained as a mascot for the project[3]

Within a year of their launch, the value of CyberKongz surged dramatically. By March 2022, the floor price for a Genesis CyberKongz had exceeded 210 ETH[4], propelling the project's market cap close to $100 million.

Features edit

BANANA Token edit

A key development in CyberKongz's history was the introduction of the $BANANA token. Genesis Kongz owners can earn 10 BANANA tokens daily for ten years. These tokens are integral to the ecosystem, used for customization and breeding.[5]

Breeding and Baby Kongz edit

Breeding required two Genesis Kongz and 600 BANANA tokens, resulting in Baby Kongz. These 2nd generation NFTs are capped at 4,000 and offer exclusive community features, like specialized Discord servers.

CyberKongz VX edit

The 3rd generation, CyberKongz VX, are 3D voxel-based avatars intended for various metaverses, notably The Sandbox. These avatars feature customizable names, backstories, and offer additional utility within the CyberKongz ecosystem.

Play & Kollect edit

Play & Kollect is an on-chain game hosted on Polygon network launched in early 2022.[6]

In the game, players send their CyberKongz VX in groups, known as crews, on adventure runs in a jungle setting. The main objective is to collect Kongium[7], which players can redeem for various rewards, including the seasonal $BANANA prize pool and exclusive NFTs.[8]

The game introduces unique tokens like Fuel Rods[9] and Lucky Charms[10] to enhance gameplay. Fuel Rods, generated daily by each locked-in CyberKong VX, are used to start adventure runs. Lucky Charms, which are ERC-1155 NFTs, increase the loot potential for the crews, adding an extra layer of strategy to the game.

Sky Mavis partnership edit

The collaboration between CyberKongz and Sky Mavis, the developer behind Axie Infinity, involves integrating the CyberKongz universe with the Ronin chain. Ronin, a blockchain developed by Sky Mavis, is tailored for blockchain gaming applications.[11]

CyberKongz has introduced the Genkai collection, a new set of 20,000 anime-inspired collectibles. This collection is split between the Ronin chain and the Ethereum mainnet, with 4,000 Genkai available on Ronin via the Mavis Marketplace and 16,000 on Ethereum.[12]

CyberKongz is moving its on-chain game, Play & Kollect, from the Polygon network to the Ronin chain. This change aims to lower transaction costs for players, potentially improving accessibility and player experience.

Christie's Auction edit

In December 2021, Christie's, in collaboration with OpenSea, hosted its first on-chain NFT auction, generating a total of $3.6 million USD.[13] Two CyberKongz, specifically CyberKong #201 and #46, were among the top sales. CyberKong #201 fetched 185 ETH (approximately $793,439 USD), while CyberKong #46 garnered 96.6 ETH (about $414,304 USD). The proceeds from these sales benefitted the Virunga National Park.[14]

Charity edit

The CyberKongz NFT auction for Virunga National Park took place on September 24, 2021, in conjunction with World Gorilla Day. This special event featured the auction of CyberKong #Matabishi, an NFT named after a mountain gorilla at the Senkwekwe Centre. Proceeds from the auction were allocated to support conservation efforts in Virunga National Park, a sanctuary for a significant population of mountain gorillas. This auction is part of CyberKongz's broader initiative to aid the park, highlighted by their substantial 50 ETH donation earlier that year.[15]
