Draft:Competency Demonstration Report

Competency Demonstration Report edit

A Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) is a scrutiny document. It evaluates and verifies the skills and knowledge of an engineer.

There are two major components of a CDR: edit

  1. Skills Assessment , and
  2. Degree Assessment.

The skills assessment is further conducted by the following three major investigations:

  1. Career Episodes: It is a detailed description of three main engineering projects which showcase the engineer’s knowledge and skills.
  2. Summary Statement: An overview of the engineer’s career which highlights his key achievements and efficiency.
  3. Continuing Professional Development (CPD): This is a record of the engineer’s ongoing learning and professional development activities.

Degree assessment ensures that the certificate issuing institution owns the mandatory license & affiliation from the competent authorities and follows the industry specific guidelines and criteria by some organizations like EA (Engineers Australia), APEGBC (Association of Professional Engineering and Geoscientists of British Columbia), IPENZ (Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand), IEPNG (Institution of Engineers in Papua New Guinea), etc.

Degree assessment includes the examination of CV (Curriculum Vitae) which depicts the education and other relevant qualifications.

Additionally, the CDR may include: edit
  • Personal details
  • References
  • Supporting documents (e.g. project reports, certificates)
Uses edit
  1. Competency demonstration report is required to join an engineering organization as a member in different countries.
  2. It is need to become a CE (Chartered Engineer).
  3. CDR is used to qualify migration skill test and permanent residency in many countries.
