Colourblocks is a British animated television series for preschoolers that debuted on CBeebies on 12 September 2022. The programme was created by Joe Elliot and David Bowman and produced by Alphablocks Ltd with Blue Zoo. It was commissioned by the British Broadcasting Corporation. The show follows the Colourblocks, characters made of customised shapes (even though Black, White, Grey, Light Grey, Dark Grey, and Cyan's shape aren't customised) who represent colours. They live in a fictional planet called Colourland and embark on adventures relating to shape and colour concepts.[1][2]

Premise edit

Colourblocks follow the adventures of blocks in Colourland, each one named after a colour. They appear to have a specific shape and colour. When one Colourblock goes to the side of another: they transform into (or mix into) a different Colourblock to make a new colour. Many of the Colourblocks are associated with their colours.[3]

Development edit

BBC Studios commissioned Colourblocks as an animated series for children aged 3–6 to be developed by Essex production company Blue Zoo. Created by Joe Elliot and David Bowman, the series was made to give children a deeper understanding of how colours are made and created.

Characters edit

Red, a female[14] teardrop-triangular pyramid-shaped object who is always excited[15]. She is voiced by Claire Morgan.[16]

Blue, a male[17] frustum-like cube, who is chill. He is the only character voiced by Bayo Gbadamosi.[18]

Yellow, a male[19] hemisphere, who is happy and joyful. He loves rubber ducks and lemonade[20], and is voiced by Will Jennings.[21]

Green, a female[citation needed] half gumdrop-shaped object who loves life and nature[citation needed], presumably resembling the World Wide Fund for Nature. She is voiced by Harriet Carmichael[citation needed].

Orange, a female[citation needed] teardrop-shaped object who uses energy[citation needed] than the rest of the Colourblocks. Like Red, she is voiced by Claire Morgan[citation needed].

Purple, a male[citation needed] trapezoid-like cuboid who is known as the king of Colourland[citation needed]. He has a mole under his left eye. Like Yellow, he is voiced by Will Jennings[citation needed].

Indigo and Violet, characters that look similar to Blue and Purple, but Indigo is a bit more purple[citation needed] and Violet is female[citation needed] and a bit more blue[citation needed]. They both wore helmets and boots[citation needed], but lack their attires in the Meet the Colourblocks mobile app. Both of them are voiced by Harriet Charmicheal[citation needed]. Their attires can be seen separate from them on the Meet the Colourblocks mobile app, by colouring them.

Black, White, Grey, Light Grey, and Dark Grey, non-speaking spheres with eyes and tiny paws. They lack visible eyebrows, mouths, and legs. Grey, Light Grey, and Dark Grey only appear on two episodes, the former's namesake episode and "It's a Colourful World"[citation needed]. Like Green and Brown,[a] they are voiced by Harriet Carmichael[citation needed].

Pink, the same as Red, but male, coloured pink, and a face and eyes that look similar to Yellow's. His personality is a very funny guy[citation needed].[citation needed]. He is the voiced by Kayi Ushe and the only one to be voiced by him so far.[citation needed].

Brown, the same as Orange, but coloured brown, isn't that reliant on energy, and eyebrows with a diferent thickness. She wears a brown hat and boots[citation needed]. She is an adventurer that likes to explore colours[citation needed]. Like Green, Black, Dark Grey, Grey, Light Grey, and White, she is voiced by Harriet Carmichael[citation needed].

Cyan, the same as Blue, but female[citation needed], with straight cube, and coloured cyan. She wears a helmet and goggles[citation needed], but lacks her attire in the Meet the Colourblocks mobile app and the episode "Colour Wheels". She is voiced by Akiya Henry[citation needed].

Magenta, the same as Red, but male[citation needed], with straight triangular pyramid, and coloured magenta. He wears a helmet and goggles[citation needed], but lacks his attire in the Meet the Colourblocks mobile app and the episode "Colour Wheels". Like Yellow and Purple, he is voiced by Will Jennings[citation needed].

Lime, the same as Green, but more shorter and female. She wears her clothing attire, which is a lime band with a white squiggle on her arms and legs. She also has a star, and dark green, thick eyebrows.

Deep Blue and Sky Blue are Blue's shade relatives, which they both have the same shape as him. Both of them wear lifevests and helmets/hats on, Sky Blue has goggles, a moustache, a cloud on his helmet, and thin eyebrows, while Deep Blue has thicker eyebrows.[citation needed]
