Clynxx Limited is a British technology company which specialises in the supply of electronic private prescriptions software to UK prescribers and clinics.[1]

Clynxx was founded as Clynxx Limited on August 17, 2016[2] by T. K Muswizu to develop and supply electronic private prescription services. The company's FreeRx® technology became the most popular electronic private prescription software in the UK. As the market for digital health services grew as a result of the 2019 Covid pandemic, the company saw adoption of its service become mainstream.

Products edit

FreeRx®[3] edit

The FreeRx® service allows UK and EU prescribers to create electronic private prescriptions that are sent to the patients directly as a code via email and SMS. The prescription code can be used to get the prescription dispensed at any regulated pharmacy in the UK and EU.

UK pharmacies that accept FreeRx® prescription codes include Boots, Tesco, Well, Asda, Day-Lewis, independent pharmacies. Electronic prescription adoption in the EU varies between member states resulting in inconsistent reliability of the service between different member states.

Technology edit

The FreeRx® technology is powered by us of Yoti biometric identification services coupled with regulatory body databases such as licensed by the General Medical Council (GMC), General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This allows Clynxx to determine in real time whether prescribers are maintained on their relevant register with the qualifications that allow them to issue prescriptions.[4]

Regulatory Compliance edit

Electronic Private Prescriptions generated by the Clynxx software meet the regulatory requirements set out by the UK and EU legislation which require electronic prescriptions to:

"(a)created in electronic form;

(b)signed with an advanced electronic signature; and

(c)sent to the person by whom it is dispensed as an electronic communication (whether or not through one or more intermediaries)."

and define an advanced electronic signature as an electronic signature that is-

"(a)uniquely linked to the person (“P”) giving the prescription;

(b)capable of identifying P;

(c)created using means that P can maintain under P’s sole control; and

(d)linked to the data to which it relates in such a manner that any subsequent change of data is detectable."[5]

In June 2023, an investigation by the UK Pharmacy Safety Group revealed that Clynxx was one of the only two electronic private prescription services in the UK found to be fully compliant with the regulatory requirements.[6] Electronic Private Prescriptions created via the Clynxx system were also found to be in line with the guidelines issued to UK pharmacies by Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group. The Patient Safety Group known as the Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group comprises the 18 most prominent community pharmacy organisations, alongside the National Pharmacy Association (NPA), Numark, and the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies (AIMp). This representation is designed to advocate for and address the interests of independent and smaller multiple pharmacies within the group.[7]

Patient Safety edit

The Clynxx system improves safety by providing safety features for prescribers to reduce prescribing errors. The system also improves the dispensing process performed at pharmacies to ensure safety by allowing one-click information transfer between the prescription and the pharmacy's dispensing system. By eliminating duplication of data entry, the system reduces likelihood of errors associated with data entry[8] whilst reducing the time it takes for the pharmacy team to dispense medication.

Partnerships edit

Prescribers can access the Clynxx technology via third party softwares such as Semble[9], Carebit and Jelly. Clynxx regularly exhibits at The Private Healthcare Summit hosted by LainBuisson[10]
