The Cloch Point To Dunoon Anti-submarine Boom, was part of the Clyde Defences during both of the World Wars. It was located on the upper Firth of Clyde, between Dunoon on the Cowal peninsula and the Cloch Lighthouse on the Inverclyde coast, in the west of Scotland. The tethering points on the east shore were located at, National grid reference NS 20309 75898, on the west coast, tethering points are still visible on the rocks below Castle Hill in Dunoon .[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]
The anti-submarine boom protected The Tail of the Bank, an area of deep water where shipping gathered too convoy.[10][11]
Associated with the anti-submarine boom were three coastal defence installations. The Ardhallow Battery and Dunoon Battery[3]on the west shore, the Cloch Point Battery is on the east shore.[7][12]
