Buona Vista Bus Terminal (Malay: Pertukaran Bus Buona Vista; Chinese:波那维斯达巴士终站; Tamil:புவன விஸ்தா பேருந்து நிலையம்) is a bus terminal located in Holland Village, a subzone of Queenstown, Singapore. It is located adjacent to Buona Vista Community Centre and close to Buona Vista MRT Station. Buona Vista Bus Terminal does not allow boarding or alighting on the site of the terminal. Boarding and alighting is only done at the nearest bus stops at Commonwealth Avenue or North Buona Vista Road.
History edit
Commonwealth Avenue Bus Terminal edit
The bus terminal was originally located at the junction of Commonwealth Avenue and North Buona Vista Road, named Commonwealth Avenue Bus Terminal. It was located beside the Jurong railway line.[4]
Holland Drive Bus Terminal edit
Due to the construction of the extension of Commonwealth Avenue, part of Commonwealth Avenue Bus Terminal was affected and had to be replaced by a temporary bus terminal along Holland Drive.[5] This bus terminal was located next to the City Shuttle Service terminus and started operating in November 1975 only for certain bus routes.[6]
Relocation to current site edit
In 1982, SBS Transit vacated both Commonwealth Avenue terminal and Holland Drive Bus Terminal. They were relocated to a temporary terminal, named North Buona Vista Terminal. However, due to noise disturbances caused to residents living nearby, the bus terminal was relocated yet again, now to the current site at North Buona Vista Road in 1986.[7]
Incidents edit
On 17 January 2023, 27-year-old Mohamed Rafiq Mohamed Basir was convicted of theft and charged for stealing an SBS Transit bus worth $302,639 and driving without a Class 4 driving licence or insurance coverage. The bus was stolen from Buona Vista Bus Terminal.[8] He was sentenced to nine months and two weeks in prison and suspended from driving for a year.
Bus Contracting Model edit
Under the new bus contracting model, Buona Vista Bus Terminal is now under the Clementi Bus Package, operated by SBS Transit.
