Benjamin M. Flowers is an American lawyer who served as the tenth Solicitor General of Ohio.[1][2]

Education edit

Flowers graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University in 2009 and earned his Juris Doctor with high honors from the University of Chicago Law School in 2012.[3]

Career edit

Flowers began his legal career as a law clerk to Judge Sandra Ikuta of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, followed by a clerkship with Associate Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court of the United States in 2015. Prior to his role as Solicitor General, Flowers worked as an appellate litigator at Jones Day, specializing in appeals and intricate trial-level motions. His diverse caseload encompassed various legal domains, from bankruptcy to constitutional law, litigated in courts nationwide, including the Supreme Court of the United States and the Supreme Court of Ohio.[1]

Appointed by Attorney General–elect Dave Yost on January 2, 2019, Flowers assumed the position of Solicitor General on January 14, 2019.[1] Tasked with representing the state of Ohio, he appeared before judicial bodies including the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Ohio, and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
