Auguste Gaudin edit

Auguste Gaudin was a politician, lawyer and journalist that has influenced the city of Bastia over the years. Antoine Jean Auguste Dominique Ubaldo Gaudin, or Auguste Gaudin for short, was born on August 4th of 1848 in Bastia. In 1871, with his brother Albert Gaudin, he started the newspaper “La Corse”. This newspaper lasted until 1877. While Gaudin was a journalist, he also found interest in law and politics. Gaudin later became a lawyer and a certified bonapartiste. [1] In 1878, Gaudin joined the Conseil Municipal de la Ville de Bastia. In 1888 he became mayor of Bastia. While he was mayor, Gaudin restored the ‘Fontaine Neuve’ or new fountain. This can be seen now days on Rue Fontaine Neuve. Gaudin’s term ended in 1912 after he died. In 1920, the boulevard previously named Boulevard Sant’ Angelo, was renamed Boulevard Auguste Gaudin to honor Gaudin’s work as a journalist, lawyer and mayor.[2]
