Armada is an upcoming science fiction film based on Ernest Cline's 2015 novel of the same name. Cline co-wrote the script with Dan Mazeau. The film will be released by Universal Pictures.
Premise edit
"Armada centers on a teenage player of an online video game in which players defend against an alien invasion. He discovers that the game is actually simulator to prepare him and others to defend against an actual alien invasion."[1]
Production edit
In December 2012, Variety announced the purchase of the film rights for Ernest Cline's then-upcoming novel Armada to Universal Pictures for a reported seven-figure sum; Scott Stuber and Dan Farah were attached as producers for their respective Bluegrass Films and Farah Films banners.[2]
In April 2018, following the release and success of Ready Player One (the film adaptation of Cline's eponymous 2011 novel, also produced by Farah), Dan Mazeau was hired to rewrite from an initial draft by Cline, and Dylan Clark was added as a producer for Dylan Clark Productions, while Stuber became executive producer.[1]
