The 2024 earthquake in Prague, Oklahoma, United States happened on the 2nd of February at 05:24 UTC.[1]

It had an intensity of 5.1 on the moment magnitude scale, and an estimated VII (Very strong) on the Mercalli intensity scale. Since this is an ongoing event, it is not yet known, as of writing if any damage has been reported.

It was felt in the city of Prague, however it has also been felt in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.[2]

Possible causes edit

According to a report by the USGS, there is some evidence that the earthquake may have been caused by "impoundment of water behind dams, injection of fluid into the Earth's crust, extraction of fluid or gas, and removal of rock in mining or quarrying operations."[3]
