Format changes edit

For this season, the regular season will be divided into two phases since none team will participate in European competitions due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[1][2] At the first phase, 14 teams will play two rounds, after which the teams will be divided into two groups: Group A with top six teams from first phase and Group B with last eight teams from first phase. At the second phase, the teams will play among themselves in their groups for two more rounds. Group A teams directly qualify for the playoffs. The 4 best teams of Group B based on the results of the second stage will compete in a new stage of the championship for the League - play-in - for the 2 remaining places in the playoffs. The top eight teams at the end of the second stage advance to the playoffs. For the playoffs, all series will be played in best-of-seven playoffs, except for the quarterfinals that will be played in best-of-five playoffs.[3]

A total of 14 teams contested the league, including 12 sides from the 2022–23 season (Ten Russian teams, one Belarusian team and one Kazakhstani team) and two newly-joined Russian sides (Uralmash Ekaterinburg and Runa Moscow).[3][4]
