Draft:2023 Comrades Marathon

The 2023 Comrades Marathon is the 96th edition of the Comrades Marathon that took place on Sunday, June 11, 2023. The course was a 87.701km down run, running from Pietermaritzburg to Durban and was approximately 2.2km shorter than the prior year’s 89.885km down run. Record down run times for both men and women were both set on courses that finished at Kingsmead but which were several kilometers longer than the 2023 course: David Gatebe set the -standing- best down run time of 05:18:19 in 2016 on a 89.208km course, and Frith van der Merwe set the still-standing ladies’ best Down Run time of 05:54:43 in 1989 on a 89.6km course.
