Hurricane Four, mainly known as the 1879 Louisiana hurricane, was a Category 4 hurricane which affected Louisiana during September 1879. The fourth tropical storm, fourth hurricane, and second major hurricane of the 1879 Atlantic hurricane season, Four was first noted as a tropical storm on August 28. Throughout the next day, Four rapidly intensified, becoming a Category 2 hurricane. By August 31, Four had peaked as a major hurricane with sustained winds of 130 mph (210 km/h), making landfall in Morgan City, Louisiana later that day. Four rapidly weakened once inland, and by September 2, had dissipated.
