Deepika English Medium School (Hindi: दीपिका अंग्रजी मद्यमेक विद्यालय, रौर्केला) is located in sector-5, of the city of Rourkela in the Indian state of Odisha. It was established in 1976 with the contribution of ladies of Deepika Mohila Sangati, Rourkela. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education pattern of education, New Delhi.[2]
History
The school began its education by the ladies of Mahila Sangati Rourkela in 1976. Now the school is run by governing bodies of Rourkela. The infrastructure of the school is maintained by the Rourkela Steel Plant Management. The school is divided into three wings primary, middle, secondary types of education system. The school is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with laboratory facility in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer, Social Studies and Mathematics. Its founding Principal was Mr. V.N.N. Paniker, who is considered as a pioneer in the field of higher education.
By 1991, the school had moved into a three-storey building, and it had a student population of about 1800 students. By 2006 it had a student body of almost 3,000 students.
Education system
The school follows the Central Board of Secondary Education system and has continuous tests and assignments.
Campus
The campus is situated in the heart of the Rourkela city, Sector-05, near the campus of Padmanava College of Engineering. The school buildings today comprise of three-storey building with computer centres, a work-experience block; science, maths, commerce, biology, chemistry and physics laboratories; one library, basketball courts, cricket grounds, and football fields. The school's has library cum audio centre called Deepsikha within the school premises.[3]
Courses offered
The school has nearly 3000 students from class I to XII, having Science and Commerce streams at Senior Secondary level.
It prepares the students of Class X and XII for CBSE examinations AISSE and AISSCE
The school has a Primary Resource Room, Science Laboratories, Computer Rooms with TV, LCD and OHP facilities, playgrounds and gardens and a library.
