Cateristis eustyla is a species of moth in the family Tineidae. This species is found in New Zealand and Tasmania. It is classified as "Data Deficient" by the Department of Conservation.

Taxonomy edit

C. eustyla was described by Edward Meyrick in 1889 using specimen he found at Riccarton Bush in December.[2][3] In 1928 George Hudson discussed the species.[4] The lectotype specimen is held at the Natural History Museum, London.[3]

Description edit

Meyrick described the species as follows:

♂. 10-11mm. Head and thorax white, face grey. Palpi dark fuscous. Antennae whitish-grey. Abdomen grey. Legs dark grey, tarsi ringed with white, middle and posterior tibiae grey-whitish. Forewings lanceolate ; snow-white ; costa slenderly dark fuscous from about 14 to 34 : cilia light grey, towards base whiter, round apex wholly white or ochreous-white, with a grey dot. Hindwings and cilia light grey.[2]

Distribution edit

This species is found in New Zealand.[5][6] It is also found in Tasmania.[4] This species has not been recorded in New Zealand since 1882.[3][7]

Habitat edit

This species frequents forest habitat.[4]

Conservation status edit

This species has been classified as having the "Data Deficient" conservation status under the New Zealand Threat Classification System.[1]
