Principal Skinner from Simpsons edit

Why does somebody revert my edit? As we know Skinner's real name is Armen Tamzarian User:Gegart (talk) 02:37, 23 Feb 2015 (UTC)

Armin is a Germanic name anyway, and there is no source for him being Armenian—never once mentioned in the show, nothing reliable online. You're not the first to try and add it, and unfortunately you won't be the last. *sigh* Mac Dreamstate (talk) 03:36, 23 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Armen Tamzarian is an extremely Armenian name. See, for example, this article. In Armenian the name is written Արմէն Թամզարեան. The writer of the Simpsons episode in question apparently took the name from a man he met in Los Angeles, which has a high Armenian population. Who knows, maybe it was the man in the aforementioned article! Ketone16 (talk) 02:33, 29 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Definitely Armenian. The name is also Armenian first and Germanic and Nordic took the name from Armenian roots. Also, The very name is a derivation of "Armen" which comes from the "Armenian" word in pretext. Tamzarian is also a real Armenian name and this argument is null and void cause he's obviously Armenian. - Zarbon (talk) 14:55, 12 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
The notion of something being "obvious" has no bearing on WP. We go by reliable sources, and there are none whatsoever that state the Principal Skinner character himself as being Armenian. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 15:48, 10 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Not sure why this idiot above is making such a big deal about it. Tamzarian is an Armenian last name and many Armenians are named Armen/Armin. There is even a real famous Armen Tamzarian who is Armenian. https://www.swlaw.edu/faculty/adjunct/armen-tamzarian — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.122.119.221 (talk) 07:59, 15 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

The "big deal" comes from Wikipedia's founding principles, which include WP:Verifiability. In short, Wikipedia you can't really add information just because you "know" or feel like it, but only because this information is already considered as valid by other sources regarded as reliable. This extends to fictional characters. There is plenty of coverage about the Simpsons characters, e.g. from what the authors said as well as critics. If you find a piece where someone knowledgeable defines Principal Skinner as Armenian (using the word "Armenian" in the source) then you can consider that this is a WP:defining part of this fictional character. Until then, there are plenty of people (real and fictional) for which the last name cannot be used as the only source to attribute an origin or ethnic identity (otherwise Jacqueline Bouvier would be French).
