Merge? edit

It might be a good idea for Category:Fell running events to be merged with Category:Mountain running competitions. "Fell" is a British term not applied or generally understood outside Britain, whereas "mountain" is well-understood wherever English is spoken. Androstachys (talk) 10:11, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

The big three UK rounds (Bob Graham, Paddy Buckley and Charlie Ramsay) aren't competitions, though to be precise they aren't events either. A more correct categorisation would be "challenge". REWightman (talk) 10:51, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi REWightman, the renaming decision was at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 July 24#Category:Fell running events, which I closed promptly after 7 days as it was uncontested. Pardon my ignorance, but why do you say these are not "events"? Do people do them on any day of their own choosing? – Fayenatic London 13:43, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I don't follow the categories discussions so missed it :-) Anyway, correct. There is no set date or start time, it is up to each individual to choose that according to their personal preferences - some might want to start at midnight, others at 6am, etc. They can also choose which direction to attempt the rounds. Looking at the list of "competitions" I'd say it was better if there was a Category:Mountain running challenges that they could be moved to. REWightman (talk) 13:55, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
That seems a good idea. Looking around, are "fell running competitions" basically "mountain running competitions in the UK"?
At Talk:Fell_running#New_article_for_Mountain_running there was a suggestion to separate the article into two topics "fell running" and "mountain running", but nothing came of it. @Sillyfolkboy:, what do you think now?
I am thinking that we could boldly move the article to "mountain running" as a more international title, then move Category:fell running to Category:Fell running in the United Kingdom as the UK sub-cat of Category:Mountain running, maybe with Fell/UK sub-cats for competitions and runners. The 3 UK rounds can probably just go in "fell running in UK" rather than needing a sub-cat for UK challenges. – Fayenatic London 15:03, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
