Constantine and Julian edit

Can someone cite evidence that either of these emperors was formally deified by the Roman state? --Jfruh (talk) 13:11, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Libanius 18.304, Eutropius 10.16.2; the Senate after all was mostly pagan. Bill 21:09, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Defining this category edit

The meaning and usefulness of this category have been called into question at Julian the Apostate. We realized that there wasn't obvious consensus on what constituted deification. Did it require an act of the senate, or would the existence of a sufficient number local/regional imperial cults suffice? If the latter, how many? I guess I'm wondering what this category tag offers that discussing each individual emperor's deification (or lack thereof) in the article body would not. Thoughts?
