Subcats? edit

Cat initially created for Ukrainian uprisings but there are also Don cossack uprisings. Should we put them in this same cat? --Irpen Should we put Don cossack uprisings here as

I created the cat when thinking about several Ukrainian history articles. In History of Ukraine, the cossack uprisings played a major role. However, I realized later that non-Ukrainian uprisings (Puhachev, Bulavin, Razin) also qualify for the cat with such name. There is nothing wrong with that of course. However, I think it is a good idea to have a dedicated cat for Ukrainian uprisings. Should we split this into two subcats. Suggested names:

  1. "Ukrainian cossack uprisings", or "Dnieper cossack uprisings"
  2. "Russian cossack uprisings", or "Don cossack uprisings" (are these synonimous)

We can than create subcats to each of the two "Ukrainian cossack rebels" and "Russian cossack rebels."

I think it makes a good sense to have UA and RU uprisings separate. In Ukrainian history these uprisings had a unique role in forming the Ukrainian statehood. It seems to me that in Russian history the uprisings were mostly disasters for the Russian state. So we have an important difference.

The problem is that calling them "Cossack uprisings in Russia" and "Cossack uprisings in Ukraine" seems like a bad choice because applying the term "Ukraine" to the times of these uprisings is somewhat anachronistic. OTOH, "Ukrainian cossack uprisings seems fine. Thoughts? --Irpen 06:55, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd vote for Dnieper Cossack uprisings and Don Cossack uprisings --Ghirla -трёп- 09:31, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree at the time majority of these uprisings occurred people did not yet had such clear national identities as "Ukrainian" or "Russian" but rather identified themselves as "Cossack", "Orthodox Christians", "subjects of Moscovite Czar", "subjects of Polish king", "free Cossacks of Zaporozhian Host" etc. Fisenko 00:14, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

the question is how many of them were? If 3-4 in each category, then no big sense to split them. mikka (t) 02:27, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, there are more than 3-4. You can check even now. --Irpen 02:31, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maybe just have one subcat for now: Category:Dnieper Cossack uprisings? All other uprizings will go to the main category. I am not sure the Don Cossack uprizing is a good description for e.g. Pugachev uprizing as Ural (Yaik) is very far from Don abakharev 08:23, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The whole Cossack material (including articles) should be split into Russian and Ukrainian parts (Kuban Cossacks being an exception). This stuff remains irreasonably syncretic like it was still a miserable stub. Ukrained 11:11, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please note that the question asked was how to name the subcats and not whether to have them. --Irpen 06:20, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dear Irpen, I hope you're not trying to constrain my right to question every each edit of yours, as well as to establish a broader context to every each topic of discussions in WP. You're not the one who ultimately "asking" here. You're not Jimbo Whales as far as I know :) So if you don't like to discuss something particularly with me - I'll live with it. Moreover, in that case I reserve my right to edit regardless of your objections :). So may I ask you to remove or rephrase your response in a civil cooperative way? Ukrained 07:16, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ukrained, I like to discuss things with you as way as with others. That's why I asked the question. Your response simply did not provide any answer but asserted something that was agreed anyway. I am (rather than not) interested in your opinion in how to name the subcats. Because you didn't answer, I pointed that out in case you have an opinion that you want to share. I am tired of you attacking me all the time but that's a different matter and, reciting you, I'll live with it. Good luck with your edits. --Irpen 07:45, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Irpen, in case if you're loosing your reading abilities, my post was a clear answer to your clear questions (see above):
  • Should we put them in this same cat?
  • Should we split this into two subcats?
As everyone can see, I can read and understand English. Can you? While your post, sorry, sounded like "Nobody asked you". Please refrain from such tone in future. Ukrained 08:50, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sigh. --Irpen 19:28, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

    • If there's going to be all this bickering, I'm leaving! Ha ha! (Cossack's great grandaughter)...***
