Musicians awarded the Mendelssohn Prize or Mendelssohn Scholarship established in the 1870s, administered initially by the Prussian state and later by the German government until 1934. The East German Ministry of Culture revived it in 1963. It is now awarded by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation.
