A landrace (sometimes "landrace breed) is a local variety of a domesticated animal or plant species which has developed largely by natural processes from wild species, by adaptation to the natural and cultural environment in which it lives, as distinct from a standardized breed. A plant landrace may be referred to as a "traditional variety"; an animal landrace may also be called be a "natural breed" or "traditional breed".
