Carmel Junior College is a Catholic school in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. It is known for selective admissions and high quality education in the Steel City of Jamshedpur.

The current principal is Sr. Sylvie A.C. who took office in June 2010 from the former principal and founder Sr. Flavian A.C. The school has approximately 2500 students.

History

Founded in 1997, the school has achieved a great many distinctions in this short span of time. The Bal Vihar Committee provided land for the project. Tata Steel, Timken and Tata Power were instrumental in providing support for the school. Most important of these was the founder Sr. Flavian's meticulous planning of how she wanted her school to be. On 3 March 1997 Sister Vincent, the then Superior General lit the symbolic lamp to inaugurate the school.

Curriculum

The school is affiliated to the ICSE board, New Delhi for classes up to tenth and CISCE board, New Delhi for classes eleventh and twelfth. Students are offered classes in Science, Mathematics, English, Arts, Hindi along with compulsory Physical Education which is essential for achieving passing grades in the final examination of each year. At the end of class ten, students are allotted streams for further study based on their preferences and marks. The three streams currently on offer are PCM, PCB and Commerce. The school was the first in the town to use digital methods of teaching via computer aided modules and projectors.

House system

Carmel follows a traditional house system. There are four houses; Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune. All houses compete in the various sports challenges and events.

Extra Curricular activities

The School offers a wide range of activities. The School fields Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Handball and Basketball teams in all the inter-school competitions. Members of these teams have represented the district and state several times over the years.
