The City of Bunbury and the suburb of Carey Park are located on the traditional land of the Wardandi (also spelled Wadandi) people of the Noongar nation.[4][5][6]

The suburb contains a number of heritage-listed sites, among them the Carey Park Primary School and the former St Elizabeth of Hungary Church.[7] Like similar areas in the region, Carey Park has had issues of drainage.[8]
