AFC Beach Soccer Championship
The AFC Beach Soccer Championship is the main championship for beach soccer in Asia. The first championship was held in 2006 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as all following tournaments have been. The two finalists and the winner of the third place play-off qualify for the following FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. The most successful nation is the United Arab Emirates and Japan, who have won the tournament two of the five times. However Japan may be considered as the most successful team, they have qualified for the World Cup each year by finishing in other qualifying positions, whereas the United Arab Emirates have only qualified for the World Cup when they have won the championship.
Now that the World Cup takes place every two years, so will the qualifiers, starting with the qualifiers for the 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
