Help with draft please!

edit

Hey Liance,

Hope you're well, I just saw your message on my talk page. I was hoping you could give me some help/advise with my Draft: Draft:Early Echoic Skills Assessment and Program Planner. Let me know where you think I can add/remove elements to help the page get approved. I've gone through the prior reviewers comments and added more references to this assessment protocol. Risinglms (talk) 01:58, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Risinglms - addressing the reviewers' comments is certainly a good start and will be the best thing you can do. I also see that you have done the proper paid editing disclosure which is also important. I would recommend reading WP:THREE and noting the best 3 sources on Draft talk:Early Echoic Skills Assessment and Program Planner, as well as leaving a comment for reviewers on the draft page itself letting them know that you have done so. That should help speed up the review process. Hope this helps. ~Liancetalk 18:40, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Simon Olivier English page

edit

Hi Liance,

I added references after all the sentences that contain an explicit statement, as you requested for the last revision. It is a bit unfortunate that most sources are in Dutch, and that we could not find sources in English. Does this mean we cannot generate an English page? If so, how could we solve this?

Thanks! BA WURorc (talk) 08:40, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

WURorc On the English Wiki sources are not required to be in English at all, they can be in any language as long as they are reliable - I would add the best sources you can locate to establish notability regardless of which language they are in. The only requirement is that the body of the wiki article itself is written in English. ~Liancetalk 18:43, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks. Happy to read that my actions were in line with the requirements. Hopefully the page will be accepted soon. WURorc (talk) 10:09, 31 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Liance, could you indicate when we can expect that the translation is accepted? Thanks. Bauke WURorc (talk) 09:44, 10 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request on 15:28:46, 30 May 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by AmitGuha

edit

Thanks for your review comments. This biography was one of the deliverables for a Wikimedia project. I have submitted two other related drafts and both have been also rejected which is somewhat demoralising. The bar for accepting articles if quite high as it should be but it makes it hard for someone who is not a seasoned or regular contributor, I'm trying to understand the accepted best way to resolve the concerns before I resubmit this draft.

Will reducing the length of the article help? Is it acceptable to ask other seasoned editors to help with fixing the issues? Where can I ask for help? I realise Wikipedia is a volunteer organisation so it may not be reasonable to request others to help.

Also, I do not want to spend time trying to fix the article if it is unlikely to ever qualify to be a biography on Wikipedia.

Any help/guidance to a newbie is much appreciated. Thanks.

Amit Guha (talk) 15:28, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi AmitGuha, I appreciate you reaching out. Writing new wiki articles is tough, I can absolutely understand the struggles you are facing. There are several immediate points of feedback I can point out - as noted earlier, the tone of Draft:George Michell is highly promotional - segments like "is a world authority", "played a pivotal role" should be reworded to be more neutral (see MOS:PUFFERY). Additionally you state several explicit facts about the subject such as how they receive several awards - in biographies of living persons we generally require a source for these statements to meet our verifiability policy.
I would thoroughly review WP:NBIO before continuing work on a subject's article. If you feel like the subject clearly meets the criteria - then yes, if the draft is suitable it will eventually be accepted into the encyclopedia, and is worth working on. A subject that does not meet the criteria however will not survive as an article. Your draft makes claims about the subject that could qualify them for notability but does not have the secondary, reliable sources with significant coverage to back them up at the moment. This would be the thing I would work on most if you want to pursue getting the draft accepted. I hope this helps. ~Liancetalk 18:57, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

IndexNow article declined

edit

Thank you for reviewing my article revisions on IndexNow. We're unsure how to correct the issues, as our comparable subjects have very similar and fewer resources than we've provided. I have added a few articles from a strong authority in SEO. Comparable articles include Bing Webmaster Tools, Google Search Console and Sitemaps. I'm not sure if we're having trouble because we have been categorized with Math and Science? We are not math and science and cannot figure out how to remove that categorization. We would like to add the category search engine webmaster tools but not sure how. Any guidance you can provide will be helpful. Thank you! VWellsMicro (talk) 21:00, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi VWellsMicro - articles on Wikipedia must meet the notability guidelines or they will not be accepted or be deleted. There is no way to get around this, you will have to find sources that demonstrate the subject's notability per the criteria. You can expedite the review process by identifying the WP:THREE best sources per the criteria at WP:GNG and comment these for reviewers. You will also need to address the multiple comments reviewers have already left. The categorization of a draft does not make a difference. It's true that other articles exist but these presumably meet the criteria, otherwise they would have been or will be eventually deleted.
In addition, could you please clarify what "we" refers to in your message? If you are being paid to edit by an employer you will need to follow the paid editing disclosure procedure or risk being banned by an administrator. I am not an admin but I just wanted to make you aware. Best, ~Liancetalk 19:45, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Mr Masher38 (12:45, 5 June 2024)

edit

Hi. I recently made a correction to a wikipedia page : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilly_Gilly_Ossenfeffer_Katzenellen_Bogen_by_the_Sea (my first ever Wiki edit) but someone almost immediately reverted it. I am 100% sure my correction was, er... correct, as I actually listened to the episode beforehand to make sure. Have I made a faux pas in perhaps not informing the original editor, or should I have included some sort of citation: *I listened to it"? Would appreciate a bit of guidance, in case there is some editing etiquette I am missing. Thanks. --Mr Masher38 (talk) 12:45, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey Mr Masher38, apologies for the late reply. I see you've reached out to the reverting editor which is always a good first step. Based on that interaction, I'm going to assume the reason for the reversion was that you did not provide an inline citation to back up the statement you changed, since it's required on Wikipedia so that all statements are verifiable. In addition, you linked to a disambiguation page instead of a target article. I would try to find a source that can back up the statement you want to change, and cite it right after the sentence. Let me know if you have any more questions. Best, ~Liancetalk 19:55, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Npm left-pad incident

edit

On 8 June 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Npm left-pad incident, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 2016, the removal of a few lines of code briefly "broke the Internet"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Npm left-pad incident. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Npm left-pad incident), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Question from Sinister Terror Rogue (05:11, 10 June 2024)

edit

How often is each edited fact checked and what is the fact checking process. For instance. If i am a member of MS13. Who is fact checking my edits? Is it a member of the gang. Or is it based off of someones perspective of what it is or is not. Who scores fact from fiction? And what procedures do they follow in order to score a fact from fiction correctly. In other words. What is corrrect and what is vandalism. --Sinister Terror Rogue (talk) 05:12, 10 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Sinister Terror Rogue:, welcome to Wikipedia. On Wikipedia all stated facts are supposed to be backed up by a reliable source in the form of an inline citation so that information can be verified. This allows us to determine what is established to be true from hoaxes or vandalism. In addition editors strive to write content with a neutral point of view so that one's perspective does not cause bias to be introduced in the article. Hope this helps. Clark Brewster - Publication

edit

Hi Liance - I was recently hired to create Clark Brewster's wikipedia page draft. I made all of the suggestions you made when reviewing the article and resubmitted the draft. Are you willing to re-review this publication for me? Thank you! BDOklahoma24 (talk) 16:06, 10 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@BDOklahoma24: Usually I do not re-review drafts by request but I did take a brief look and I'm not entirely convinced the current draft meets WP:NBIO comfortably from its sourcing. I would recommend you read WP:THREE and identify the three best sources that clearly satisfy the biography notability, and leave a comment on the draft indicating this for reviewers which can help speed up the process significantly. ~Liancetalk 13:31, 14 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Claytoos: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! I can see you've already created a draft which is a great way to create a new article. Feel free to work on your article there. Once you are satisfied with it and have ensured it meets the notability criteria for biographies you can submit it for review, and another editor will accept it for publication if it looks good. Question on election article!

edit

Open to advice the article Draft:2024 South African presidential election, especially if there's any way to request an expedited review. The election is expected to occur in two days; Wikipedia is not a newspaper, but I vaguely recall that articles can be created quickly for major events. Not sure what criteria would govern whether this election qualifies. Keferbean1001 (talk) 23:27, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
