Question from Mahafis (10:46, 5 November 2023)

edit

can i create a page for this organization the SOUTH SUDAN PEOPLE'S MOVEMENT/ARMY (SSPM/A) please? --Mahafis (talk) 10:46, 5 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Mahafis: If the South Sudan People's Movement/Army has been significantly mentioned in multiple, reliable, third-party sources, then you can create a draft at articles for creation.
What's your connection to the organization? (pinging Mahafis again) I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 14:37, 5 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Poiyurt (03:10, 6 November 2023)

edit

Hello!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I've used Wikipedia for a long time, but only recently have I had the urge (and the access to resources) to contribute.

I have a bit of a strange issue at the moment. The entry for Chang'e at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chang%27e includes a poem, which claims to be in Simplified Chinese. However, the text of the poem is in Traditional Chinese, as should be obvious to any Chinese-speaking person.

I'm uncertain as to what the right fix should be. I can swap the text to simplified Chinese easily, but I'm uncertain if the original source referenced for the poem (if there even is one cited) was in traditional. On the other hand, I could change the description to say it's in Traditional, but I'm uncertain whether the standard for articles is to use traditional or simplified. --Poiyurt (talk) 03:10, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Poiyurt It looks like the source, at least for the English translation, is the book it was originally published in. Offline sources are allowed, if they are reasonably easy to access; that is, if there's only one copy of the book in the world, one probably shouldn't use on Wikipedia. Looks like Jade Mountain can be accessed online here to some extent. Maybe that will help. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 03:53, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello! How can I create new article on wikipedia --Abu abdullahi al-ndaagawi (talk) 20:59, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Abu abdullahi al-ndaagawi You can do so through articles for creation and then someone will check the draft for you before it's published. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 12:30, 8 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Lambi82 (20:49, 13 November 2023)

edit

Hey! I would like to create a bio for my professor at Columbia University who is also a writer but I am not sure if iy already exists. What should I do? --Lambi82 (talk) 20:49, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Lambi82 You really shouldn't write about your own professor this early on in your Wikipedia career. Writing or editing neutrally with a conflict of interest is complicated even for more experienced Wikipedians. On top of that, you'll have to consider if there's reliably sourced information about your professor, since it'll inevitably end up in the Wikipedia article if your professor is noted enough to qualify for one. If you insist, search for your professors name and add the word "Wikipedia" to the end. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 03:11, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from BlueWeeb (21:53, 13 November 2023)

edit

How to create a wiki --BlueWeeb (talk) 21:53, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@BlueWeeb You start out with edits that are much, much easier to do than writing an article, then you eventually go up to articles for creation. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 03:12, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Plitonic Pink (04:18, 14 November 2023)

edit

Hi mentor My draft has just been declined I just want to know how to improve the draft Can you help me --Plitonic Pink (talk) 04:18, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Plitonic Pink You need to add reliable sources to the draft. About four or five inline citations is a good goal to aim for. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 17:00, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from DavidScots (15:07, 14 November 2023)

edit

Just got started. Is it likely, with correctly referenced sources, that I can change facts that are incorrect about Scottish sovereignty? --DavidScots (talk) 15:07, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@DavidScots Yes, however, the sources do need to be reliable. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 17:01, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm looking at primary source and academic secondary interpretation. Would that suffice to edit current Wiki statements? DavidScots (talk) 18:19, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@DavidScots Wikipedia is a tertiary source; we tend to rely on secondary sources. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 02:09, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Elbeton on Draft:Adrienne Hedger (10:16, 17 November 2023)

edit

Hello, I'm creating a page about cartoonist Adrienne Hedger, but can't seem to be able to upload a picture. I own the picture, but the site says it can't determine wether that's true. Can you help? Thanks! --Elbeton (talk) 10:16, 17 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Elbeton If you're the one who took the photo, you'll have to release the photograph under partial copyright. If it's simply in your possession, then it's likely, unless Hedger is dead (or other, more rare circumstances), you'll need to have a picture-less draft. Question from CD967119 (04:42, 18 November 2023)

edit

Hello. on the page "Timeline of the introduction of color television in countries" a user with the IP addresses "120.29.86.91" and "120.29.86.15" have been claiming the Vatican introduced color tv in the 1990s without putting a source, and multiple countries introducing color tv all at once in 1988. can you ask them to add a source next time they do this? next time if they do this, i think moderation should be needed. --CD967119 (talk) 04:42, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@CD967119 You can ask them to do this yourself on the article talk page; with IP addresses, you'll need to use {{talkback}} to alert them to the discussion. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 20:47, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
How? i don't know how. could you try doing this yourself? also check the Timeline of the introduction of color television in countries revision history to see what i mean. I make edits with sources while they don't add any source CD967119 (talk) 23:50, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@CD967119
  1. Go to [[Talk:Talk:Timeline of the introduction of color television in countries]] and type out a message, much like you just typed a message to me. The only difference is that you'll need to add it manually, to the bottom of the page, under a titled section. You can get more information here.
  2. Leave a {{Talkback}} on Talk:120.29.86.91 and Talk:120.29.86.15

Hello! I've noticed you have a wide experience with editing tools. Have you tried the oabot tool? I'd love to hear about your experience doing some edits with it. There are new suggested edits in the queue. Nemo 21:22, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Nemo bis Good question! I haven't used OABot. I have, however, used Huggle and AutoWikiBrowser. I do have links to get help from other editors both here and on my userpage, though. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 17:24, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from SageGoesSavage (02:15, 22 November 2023)

edit

How do I find the right info for my article if its my own AU I made? --SageGoesSavage (talk) 02:15, 22 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@SageGoesSavage I really doubt an alternate universe that you created would would qualify for an article. Even if it did, it's advisiable that you don't edit or create an article about it since you have a conflict of interest. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 02:21, 22 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Thyrogoblin (20:19, 28 November 2023)

edit

Hi I Dream of Horses, I'm trying to publish my first article, a bio of a living physician. When you have the opportunity, could you please give me feedback on the "notability" and supporting citations -- it was rejected for these reasons and I made some edits. Looking at other similar bios (eg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Berman), I don't see as many or different quality references from the ones that I have used.

Thanks! --Thyrogoblin (talk) 20:19, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Thyrogoblin I can see why Hey man im josh declined the draft, since almost all or all of the sources you used at the time of submission were either self-published, affiliated with Edwards, or both. We need to have significant mentions in multiple independent, third party sources.
I went ahead and put a cleanup tag on the article you linked. I could probably get away with nominating it for deletion; what would probably happen, though, is the article would improve instead of getting deleted, and one shouldn't nominate an article just to get it improved. Instead of pointing out that other, lower-quality articles exist, look at our featured and good articles to see what articles look like when well-sourced.
Please note the box at the top, which states "I don't review drafts on request." If I do it for one, I fear being overwhelmed with several requests. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 20:46, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your help! I'm sorry for missing that box and the request faux pas. I'll be a proper contributor one day... Thyrogoblin (talk) 21:14, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
