Hi! This is my talk page, feel free to drop me a message. To experienced editors: feel free to stalk my talk page and reply to any threads here.To admins: I prefer that my talk page remain unprotected, even if it's being vandalized. Such edits do not particularly bother me and I prefer to remain accessible to anyone who would like to reach me. However, if the volume of vandalism is so high that no other solution would stop disruption, I don't mind if my talk page is semi-protected for a day or two. Hopefully, this is a rare occurrence.

Template editing query edit

Hello -- with your template editing hat on, I wonder if you could take a look at Template talk:Infobox poem#Oral poetry? I think similar features already exist in e.g. Template:Infobox military person, but I'm not sure I'm able (both permissions-wise and technically) to replicate them here. Would be a great help with the Homeric Hymns article, and other ancient poems of similar authorship. UndercoverClassicist T·C 10:02, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@UndercoverClassicist: looks like you've figured this out yourself already? Sorry that I wasn't responsive faster. Elli (talk | contribs) 04:31, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yup, I think so - don't think I managed to break it! No worries on the response time; I know you've been a little busy UndercoverClassicist T·C 10:21, 8 June 2024 (UTC) UndercoverClassicist T·C 10:21, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Aspen85 (13:27, 1 June 2024) edit

Hi! I am pretty new to Wikipedia and all but,I was wondering, how do those 'blue words' on the pages actually become linked? I tried it on a page which needed links but it didn't work. Could you kindly tell me how exactly do those words get linked? --Aspen85 (talk) 13:27, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Aspen85: ah, I see the issue. You attempted to use the entire URL of the page when adding a link, but you should actually only use the page title (do [[Terraform (software)|Terraform]], not [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terraform_(software)|Terraform]]. I've fixed it for you at Platform engineering. Please let me know if you have any more questions :) Elli (talk | contribs) 13:42, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much! Aspen85 (talk) 13:04, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Actually I have another question. When I clicked on the Platform engineering link, I had noticed that half of the page was gone including the Terraform link. Can you tell me why this happened? Aspen85 (talk) 13:10, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Aspen85: if you look at the article's history, you can see the different edits people have made. Not all of them had edit summaries so I can't tell you why all of them were made, though; you'd have to ask those editors. Elli (talk | contribs) 13:13, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have typed a message on to the page, and I had found out it was copyrighted. There was a comment suggesting to remove the legal part of the page. I have a teeny tiny question about that. Wouldn't we be making the page illegal if we removed the copyright part? Aspen85 (talk) 14:17, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Aspen85: external copyrighted content isn't allowed in Wikipedia pages (except in very narrow circumstances), so removing that content is necessary. Elli (talk | contribs) 14:20, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Got it. Thanks for letting me know. Aspen85 (talk) 14:21, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Bookworm8142 (18:22, 1 June 2024) edit

Hello! I not-so-recently edited https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/365.bank,_a._s. and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysochus_cobaltinus I would just like to get some additional feedback/advice as well as some tips on how to improve.

These were my first edits ever to Wikipedia, and although they were modest, I'm actually kinda proud :D. However, because they were my first edits, I will gladly accept any help you can give me.

This is a repost because my previous mentor did not respond, nor offer any guidance.

Thanks again! --Bookworm8142 (talk) 18:22, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Bookworm8142: thanks for reaching out! Your edits look alright. The only issue is that on Chrysochus cobaltinus, there usually shouldn't be links in the bolded text in the lead (MOS:BOLDLINK). Also, make sure you aren't linking too much (but I don't think you did in that edit). Elli (talk | contribs) 13:16, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a bunch! I will make sure to double check if it's bolded next time. I was worried about the overlinking but what I tried to do was to see if there was already a link with that information, and if there was, to avoid relinking it.
Thanks again! Bookworm8142 (talk) 15:43, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Hrspks (08:46, 4 June 2024) edit

Hello! I started on Wikipedia because I noticed a couple of articles missing from the Hungarian site, that I wanted to translate. I also see many opportunities for the opposite, there is a lot of information about Hungary and it's culture that is not translated to English. I would really like to translate some of these, but I do not yet have permissions to add translations to English Wikipedia.

What are the steps for getting there? I did start making edits adding information to English Wikipedia where I can, but I don't understand the process that well. --Hrspks (talk) 08:46, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Hrspks: hi! I'd suggest making more minor edits first, to get somewhat acquainted with how editing works around here. You could also expand Hungary-related articles we have without doing a direct translation; I think this would help you understand the article-writing process better, which is a good thing to understand before doing translations of articles from other languages.
Please let me know if there's something specific you'd like help with. Elli (talk | contribs) 04:33, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Taiwo Jamiu on Talk:Northumbria University (15:16, 4 June 2024) edit

@Taiwo Jamiu: hi; unfortunately this isn't something Wikipedia can really help you with. Their website is at [1] and you might be able to find something there? Elli (talk | contribs) 16:56, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

An inappropriately premature congratulations edit

I'll be going to bed shortly, and if I leave it until the morning it will only be appropriately premature, which wouldn't do at all. Welcome to the corps, I look forward to working with you. Feel free to ping me if you ever need any guidance; I probably won't know what to do either, but there's a decent chance I'll know someone else to ping! Good luck! Congratulations for passing your RFA and welcome to adminship, and for doing it in style. Someone will doubtless turn up soon with your Tshirt. When you get bored scrabbling down the back of the sofa hunting for the most apt block reason, feel free to rummage in my monobook where some kind sole put the code for a dropdown menu. Questions from a new user edit

Hello, you were assigned as my mentor, and I have a question, I want to contribute, but just in a more minor way at first, what should I look for? (Also congrats on adminship!) MrMcOrange (talk) 16:51, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@MrMcOrange: hi! It really depends on what your skills and interests are, but finding and fixing small errors in pages can be a good start. Elli (talk | contribs) 16:53, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay thanks, and I'll take some time over the summer to better learn the way Wiki editing works! MrMcOrange (talk) 16:56, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@MrMcOrange: Sounds good; feel free to let me know if you have any more questions :) Elli (talk | contribs) 16:57, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations on passing RfA! Sorry, but I just couldn't resist using a cat for the wikilove. I know you know why. ;)
