Tool of the week

  • Wikidata periodic table - Tool by User:Ricordisamoa, to browse all chemical elements available on Wikidata, with atomic number, chemical symbol, and localized label. It also includes two charts of the nuclides, with links to every isotope in Wikidata, colored by half-life or decay mode.

Other Noteworthy Stuff

  • A new UI mode is available for the online validator for EntitySchemas. It represents validation reports as a table rather than a very long string, and replaces most links with hyperlinks with some of the text behind them; making them easier to read. Currently being tested at https://shex-validator.toolforge.org/packages/shex-webapp/doc/shex-simple-improved.html, we are looking for participants to evaluate this tool. Some experience with editing Wikidata is appreciated, but no experience working with Schemas is required. If you are interested, you can sign up here. We hope to begin interviews around May 13. Please have a look at this article edit

Hi. This article was supposed to be deleted back in 2007. Could you do the deed? Otherwise, could you explain why should it stay up after the vote was to delete? I don't understand the way Wikipedia works very well yet and I'm wondering if it's simply eluded the admins or if there's more to the situation. Also, if what I did (contacting you) is the wrong way to go about notifying someone about an article that has been on the death row for too long, could you tell me what's the correct course of action? Harvastum (talk) 23:45, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Tom Morris may I have your attention? Harvastum (talk) 09:10, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
The article was deleted in 2007 following the deletion discussion. An article being deleted in the past does not preclude someone from creating a new article on the topic (as someone did in 2012). There being an old article that was deleted doesn't mean a new article on the same topic must also be deleted, unless the new article has similar problems to the old one. (For an administrator to delete it as a recreation of a previously deleted article, it would be covered by the rule described at WP:G4—the fact it was recreated quite a number of years after the 2007 deletion, has been present on the site for twelve years, and has been edited a whole lot by lots of different editors would make it unsuitable for speedy deletion on that basis.)
If you think the current article should be deleted, it would need a new deletion discussion to take place. Other than the procedural matter of it having previously been deleted, is there anything in particular that concerns you about the article—in particular, related to sourcing or notability? WP:AFD and WP:BEFORE explain the rules and process on deletion. —Tom Morris (talk) 09:28, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't have an opinion on the article, I just saw the banner saying that this article was voted on and deletion was chosen, so it looked like someone overlooked it. Is that banner supposed to be there if the article now has better justification being there?
That said, I looked through the edit history out of curiosity and it does seem like edits that added anything else than minor interpunction, or links fixes (apparently, largely automated) come from red usernames who only contributed to this and another article, that has also been deleted in 2007 as a part of the same group of articles.
I apologize for my Wikipedia illiteracy, I hope you are not too bothered by me. If you feel that another deletion discussion is warranted, I would encourage you to start it. Either way, imma skidaddle. Harvastum (talk) 02:14, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely no worries at all, and no need to apologise. Generally, if an article is nominated for deletion a second time (or third, fourth etc...), the deletion discussion will often refer back to issues raised in the prior discussion. If there's still a deficit in sourcing, that may support deletion—or if points were raised in the previous deletion discussion and they've been adequately resolved, that may be an important point to make in support of retaining the article. The retention of the links to the previous deletion discussions on the talk page is there to support editors in improving the article or contributing to proper consideration of future deletion discussions. —Tom Morris (talk) 10:54, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
