Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Uncontroversial technical requests edit

  • Kerma kingdom  Kingdom of Kerma (currently a redirect instead to Kerma culture) (move · discuss) – in line with rest of page Alexanderkowal (talk) 15:31, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • KMW+Nexter Defense Systems  KNDS (currently a redirect back to KMW+Nexter Defense Systems) (move · discuss) – Official company name has changed to 'KNDS'. The 'KMW+Nexter' name is no longer used in official communications. TorreAzzurro (talk) 10:40, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Suez Rajan  St Nikolas (ship) (move · discuss) – The oil tanker Suez Rajan has since been renamed to St Nikolas. The new name is, in my opinion, equally notable as the previous one, as the tanker is known for two very similar events, each of which happened under one of these two names.
I think going with "St Nikolas (ship)" as the new article name would be best since the page without the "(ship)" suffix already exists and is a redirect to "St. Nikolas", which is a disambiguation page.
Of course, the ship name should remain italicized, too. Yours truly, 79.186.231.26 (talk) 16:49, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you provide sources to this? The above is a human event and not a ship, or am I getting it wrong here? Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 18:53, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SafariScribe, it seems to me that the article is supposed to concern the vessel itself, although it is admittedly discussed only in the context of the two events that warranted its notability. Each of these events is described by another section of the article.
I suspect that neither of these events alone might be notable enough for separate articles, so perhaps the best way forward would be to keep the article ostensibly about the vessel, and add some templates to indicate that the article needs to be improved so that it actually has some details beyond just these two events.
    I hope all is clear now =). Always yours, 79.186.231.26 (talk) 15:28, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The article was written during it's naming per [1], [2], and [3]. Others are still much in the ref layout. Could you be able to provide me with three sources or two even maybe a redirect instead and the concept of the renaming. That's far way better. Safari ScribeEdits! Contested technical requests edit

@Simoncik84: The rest of the pages in Category:Mountains of the Biellese Alps use Monte. If you want to make an argument that they should all be renamed, that would need a formal move discussion. See WP:RMPM for instructions. --Ahecht (TALK

I'm talking here about Mont Mars only. Among the pages of this category, it's the only one with an entirely French name. Some of the other summits of this category which stay on the water divide between the Province of Biella and the Aosta Valley. In the latest, French is co-official with Italian, these summits have therefore two official names (in Italian and in French), as you can see in the articles' introduction, but not Mont Mars. ASUKITE (all caps because copy-paste, not shouting), are you suggesting this discussion belongs on Talk:Nisqually Indian Tribe of the Nisqually Reservation instead of here? i'm replying here because discussion i see a discussion here, and don't see one there.
Just wanted to mention i heard on TV (PBS? i'll need to see if i can find/remember my source so i can cite it properly) the United States government uses "Indian" instead of "Native American" in legal documents. That might not outweigh Wikipedia's policy about common names, but is something else to consider.

  • Meath  Meath (disambiguation) (currently a redirect back to Meath) (move · discuss) – It should be made a disambiguation page so Meath can be redirected to County Meath, which is the primary topic. TwinBoo (talk) 14:49, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Probably worth a discussion, as the historical Kingdom of Meath clearly has a long-term significance as well. Navigation statistics show that around 30% of viewers on the dab page go there, which is reasonably high given that County Meath is a current extant county where people live... Might be worth a discussion?  — Amakuru (talk) 15:28, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Still, usually “Meath” simply refers to the county so I’d assume it would be the primary topic, but I’ll make a discussion if necessary. —TwinBoo (talk) 11:19, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly TwinBoo, a community consensus after discussion is the best option. Are you opting in for that? Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 08:26, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ysleta del Sur Pueblo  Tigua (currently a redirect back to Ysleta del Sur Pueblo) (move · discuss) – Page is about both a pueblo and corresponding tribe, both sometimes called Tigua. "Tigua" therefore makes more sense to describe both together, and already redirects to that page. — Moriwen (talk) 00:46, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just as a note, we have the page Tiwa Puebloans as well, which purports to talk about Tigua people... and if the article Ysleta del Sur Pueblo is intended to refer to a geographical location, perhaps it should remain thus. The situation is a bit confusing to be honest, and perhaps an RM involving those who know about this topic would be advisable.  — Amakuru (talk) 15:12, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded, there's too much going on and we might make it worse. ASUKITE 17:05, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@QuincyMorgan See WP:OFFICIALNAME. Wikipedia prefers to use the commonly-used name, even if it's not the official name. Same for WP:CONCISE, which encourages the use of a shorter name as long as it's not ambiguous. Per sources like this, the park is known in short as Mealy Mountains National Park Reserve. Moving to the full name would require further discussion, which you can start by clicking on the "discuss" link in your request above. --Ahecht (TALK

@Mia Mahey:, contesting because 'substantial' is more commonly used as a word than as a name. – robertsky (talk) 04:49, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
though I know the dimensions you're coming at. Searches of substantial yields many words accord meaning that @Robertsky is right for words than the rapper. The better redirect is to substance and the rappers article left as it is. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 08:22, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
