Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Women

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Women. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Women|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Women. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to People.

Being in the list of a 30 people for a region doesn't mean we have to create an article for each of them. May be she is a celebrity but not notable to be in Wikipedia like the other youtubers. No independent notability other than being a youtuber. AlbeitPK (talk) 06:02, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As an autobiography, this should at least be considered for deletion. — Biruitorul Talk 22:54, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why other opera singers are entitled to have a wikipedia page and I am not? What is different about my page? On their pages I see exactly the same informations: studies, career, roles... Alina.Mezzo (talk) 09:19, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Those are in another language version of wikipedia, we only consider the English one here. If you feel there are other articles that should not be in wikipedia, feel free to nominate them for deletion. The other pages present likely have at least three articles in what we consider reliable sources that discuss the individuals, but I have not reviewed them so can't comment. Oaktree b (talk) 13:08, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I mentioned other articles on wikipedia, similar to mine, with similar artists, to show that theirs was considered fine, even with less informations than I have provided and mine is to be deleted. I didn't know that if they are in another language than english, they are not reviewed very strictly.
I don't want the other pages deleted, it's their right to exist and inform people about the artists. I just think that if some pages with far less information can exist, mine should exist as well and not be deleted. However I will try to read more about the rules of wikipedia posting. I am not sure in how much time I can try to make it right until it gets deleted. Alina.Mezzo (talk) 13:52, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Other language Wikipedias aren't as strict with notability or inclusion criteria as the English one, so what might not qualify for inclusion on the English Wikipedia might be considered notable in other languages. As Oaktree b says, what articles exist in other language Wikipedias is irrelevant here. Procyon117 (talk) 15:34, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is not a laudative autobiography. It is just facts. I don's see why it should be deleted. Alina.Mezzo (talk) 09:20, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know that this article https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ionel_Voineag or this https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marina_Krilovici https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irina_Baian%C8%9B https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeleine_Pascu https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvia_Sorina_Munteanu just to name a few are not autobiographies?
It is very possible that they themselves have written the informations on their pages. And it makes sense, because they have all the diplomas, posters from their performances and all the data about themselves.
I don't see why my article has to be deleted, when many other articles about other romanian singers are eligible to exist on wikipedia. I have posted a reference for every performance that I have sung in by posting a link to the opera house or festival etc where the performance took place, where my name can be found in the cast, as well as what I sang and on which dates, I have posted refernces as links to posters of the events, I have backed up all the information. It is not an eulogistic article, it is just an informative one, for the public to know my achievements as an artist. I think deletion of my page is unfair, judging by the fact that other romanian opera singers have wikipedia pages that they may have written themselves and some of them provided less information than I have provided. And we should all be allowed to have the pages. Because they are very informative for the public and for the media. Alina.Mezzo (talk) 11:00, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete: This article is linking mentions of the singer as if that establishes notability, but this standard would enable everyone on a playbill to qualify for an article. It's possible that WP:NOTABILITY could be met, but it's not been established here. For @Alina.Mezzo, you need to see the WP:WP:NOTABOUTYOU and WP:COI. You aren't a reliable source for establishing your own notability, and it may be possible for you to demonstrate it with sources but "Why do they get one and I don't?" will always be met with our notability and sourcing standards. Nobody is trying to denigrate your success with this, but it reads promotionally to a lot of people here. Warrenᚋᚐᚊᚔ 13:06, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. I will read more about the rules of posting an article on wikipedia. From a logical point of view I thought that referencing most of the performances and informations in the article, is what establishes notability.
I still fail to understand the promotional ideology regarding my article. All articles about opera singers mention the studies that they have, the awards, the performances...exactly the kind of informations that I have provided and are not considered promotional. For example this wiki article : Valentina Nafornița shows exactly the studies, the performances and the awards and other notable facts about this singer. Why her wiki page is not promotional? It even promotes her album. I'm asking why the information on her page is not considered promo and mine is. It's almost exactly the same type of information. I don't understand the reason.
I will read all about wp and wp:coi and I'll try to fulfill all the required informations.
I am not sure how much time I have to do the research until the page gets deleted.
Thank you! Alina.Mezzo (talk) 14:03, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I still fail to understand the promotional ideology regarding my article.
There's no ideology, and you need to read WP:BLUDGEON and take a bit of a step back from this AfD, I think we all understand your perspective here, respectfully. You need to establish notability per Wikipedia's standards, not just point at other articles. And the above singer has coverage from the BBC, for example. There may be promotional-looking material in there that needs to be removed, but the standards are based off of WP:NOTABILITY and WP:RS, not what other articles have. Warrenᚋᚐᚊᚔ 15:11, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding WP:Bludgeon, I didn't attempt to force any point of view. I was discussing. It's simple for somebody to suggest the deletion of the page in a few words. I needed to state my logic on this matter so I needed more words to bring more arguments. I am new to wikipedia. I thought I have to respond to every editor and discuss the matter.
I have read on WP:Notability that I need to put in the article sources independent of myself. The websites from the opera houses and the websites from the newspapers are independent of me. I have no other information, apart from the official websites of opera houses and newspapers. If those are not good enough, there's no point in trying to edit the page anymore.
I have tried to read all the articles about posting but it is simply too much information to comprehend about using this website and every page or term leads to another so I will simply stop trying.
You can delete the page. Alina.Mezzo (talk) 17:08, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody is trying to run you off Wikipedia, and I don’t think anyone was trying to give you too much to read intentionally, but not making an article about yourself is a pretty important norm on Wikipedia, as is not turning a discussion page not going your way into a debate.
I understand where you’re coming from here, but unless you can meet the independent sourcing standards for notability then it doesn’t matter too much what the discussion actually ends up being. If you think you can provide those sources that may change some minds here, but not much else will. I do hope you’ll consider sticking around and helping improve some of the other opera articles after a little bit of learning the rules and norms of Wikipedia, though. I imagine it’s not a topic we get much expertise on here. Warrenᚋᚐᚊᚔ 06:51, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete. Not only is it an autobiography, which constitues a conflict of interest, but the formatting and bolding aren't really helping here either. Procyon117 (talk) 15:32, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Anybody that would write my biography would write the absolute same informations: the universities from where I have gratuated, the roles that I have sung and at which operas and the prizes that I have been awarded with. It's not like I have written the information from my point of view or something that is too appreciative about me. It's just facts.
I don't know what you mean by the formattin. I have followed the same structure of any page of any person that I have seen before: introduction, studies, career, etc and regarding bolding, I didn't know I shouldn't use it. I don't know how am I supposed to know these things. When I made the accound I have just seen a blank page and some tools and I started writing.
I do not wish to go on with this article. I feel that I am forced to prove myself for no reason, when all I did was state some facts. Alina.Mezzo (talk) 17:15, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I know it has only been two months since the last nomination but that ended as no consensus, which was not an endorsement of notability. There has been another nationwide election since then and this candidate is still getting under 0.5%. There are sources about her, yes, but they're mainly discussing her candidacies and are part of a WP:ROUTINE coverage expected in a democracy. Some other parties are mainly based around the founder, such as Vox and Chega, but those parties have hundreds of other office holders and the founders have their own individual notability as office holders and nationally recognisable figures. Apart from being an unsuccessful candidate, what can be said about Liber that isn't about her party? The page used to have information about education and children, which I removed as unsourced per BLP. I also removed the blow-by-blow of setting up a political party, as that's obviously more about the organisation than about her. But the thing is, would we ever need to know personal information about someone this notable? I saw the comment before that Liber is notable as a founder and leader of a political party, but in a democracy it's reasonably easy to set up a party, and extremely easy to be the leader of your own party. Unknown Temptation (talk) 16:55, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: Liber's electoral history: 2021 Lisbon local election (0.36%), 2022 national election (voters in other European countries constituency) (0.08%), 2024 national election (Lisbon constituency) (0.18%), 2024 European election (0.18%). • Delete I've added several refs and details to the article (while removing unsourced content). There is no significant coverage of Hermes. Her first book won a Lambda Literary Award for Bisexual Literature in 2011, but even if that's considered an important enough award for WP:ANYBIO #1, I consider that the absence of any coverage of her outweighs that. I found a few reviews of her first book in major newspapers, so an article on Careful What You Wish For could be justified. (But I'll note that the Washington Post reviewer generously concluded, "Myrlin Hermes is 23 years old, an age at which having published a book at all is a substantial accomplishment. There's plenty of time for her to turn into a real writer."[9]) Schazjmd (talk) 22:50, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I reviewed tis article thrice to determine whether it is considered worthy of a Wikipedia entry. Firstly, I saw there were good sources as though a reviewer will do. I now checked the sources and almost a good percentage weren't reliable per WP:RS. Religion of sources and lack of WP:SIRS definitely defined this type of article.

In second checking for confirmation, I discovered so many sources lined her perhaps a single line other quote while addressing her as a worker at Penal. I would have said this should be redirected to the organisation page but didn't see any advocacy worthy enough for WP:ATD. Another subtle was drive by the award nomination. This cannot be called WP:ANYBIO since it was once nominated and wasn't won (it's is also a lesser award, thus not major like ANYBIO. I've therefore brought this to the table proper discussion. @User:Oaktree b, the sources you listed all were independent of the Ugandan academic Spire or nearer to that. However, one nominated award is never enough for a career that isn't established. For example, a writer that has written extensively and appeared in reaserch paper may be considered even with the writing and more when nominated for an award like this. In this context, however, the article doesn't meet GNG of her career or any significant impact or SIGCOV of her advocacy ad work. Arguing about an award that is not even won is likely biased for me. Semi-advertorialized WP:BLP of a journalist, not properly referenced as passing notability criteria for journalists. As always, journalists are not "inherently" notable just because they exist, and have to be shown to have third-party coverage and analysis about them and the impact of their work in reliable sources other than their own employers -- but the sole reference cited here is from her own employer at the time, and thus isn't independent of her for the purposes of building notability, and the article has been tagged for needing more sourcing since 2010 without improvement.
In addition, the whole thing is written very much like somebody did a thinly veiled rewrite of her own staff profile from an employer rather than a proper encyclopedia.
Nothing here is "inherently" notable enough to exempt her from having to have more than just her own former employer for sourcing. Bearcat (talk) 16:44, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WP:BLP of a mayor, not properly sourced as passing inclusion criteria for mayors. As always, mayors are not "inherently" notable just because they exist, and have to pass WP:NPOL #2 -- where the inclusion test hinges not on simple verification of her existence, but on the ability to show a depth and range and volume of reliable source coverage that enables us to write a substantive article about her political impact: specific things she did, specific projects she spearheaded, specific effects her mayoralty had on the development of the city, and on and so forth.
But this is of the "she is a mayor who exists, so here's some unsourced background information about her educational and pre-political career credentials" variety with absolutely none of the content about her mayoralty that we require, and is "referenced" solely to her primary source profile on the self-published website of the city council, which is not a notability-building source.
No prejudice against recreation in the future if somebody can write and source something more substantive and better-sourced than this, but just using the city government's own website to prove that she exists is not how you get a mayor over the wikibar. Non-notable businesswoman and "philanthropist." Sources do not support notability under WP:GNG or WP:NBIO. Most references are WP:PRIMARYSOURCES and WP:TRIVIALMENTIONS or they fail verification. The only examples of WP:SIGCOV are problematic and unreliable. Mkazi (the website is inactive) was a lifestyle blog with no named editors or legitimate editorial process. The Parents Africa profile is really a WP:INTERVIEW, and it makes major errors (for example, stating that she left a highly-paid corporate job in a year when she would have been 20). Can you provide some details on what the second Star source you cited says since there appears to be no online version? Thanks! The first one (link here) is a WP:INTERVIEW and thus would not qualify for notability. As for the Mkazi piece, it was a lifestyle blog with no named editors or legitimate editorial process and thus cannot be a reliable source for purposes of notability. Dclemens1971 (talk) 12:44, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The second article is 1300 words on the charity founded by Wanjau. Also, I would argue that the first source I provided includes expansion of the conversation with Wanjau, and thus showing 'depth of preparation' that would be needed to establish notability as is quoted in the essay you linked. DaffodilOcean (talk) 13:26, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1300 words on Wanjau or on her charity? Re: the Star interview, every other paragraph is a quote from Wanjau. An article on this mixed martial artist was deleted three years ago after Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Denice Zamboanga as failing to meet either mixed martial arts notability or general notability. At the time, there were also multiple drafts, probably because someone was trying to game the system. The originators were then blocked for sockpuppetry. This article does not differ materially from the deleted article. The subject still is not top-ten-ranked, and so does not meet mixed martial arts notability. The article does not speak for itself and explain how the subject meets general notability. The subject's association with the ONE Championship is now verified, but "so what?", participation in the ONE Championship is not grounds for notability. The article has been reference-bombed, but nothing in the article refers to significant coverage in an article that does not speak for itself. @Nenea hartia: It looks like it was published by the Olympic committee? Or is this a mistranslation? BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:42, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@BeanieFan11:: Unfortunately I don't speak Hungarian and I am not familiar with sports organizations in Hungary, but as far as I can tell, yes, it was published by the Hungarian Olympic Committee. Also, the Hungarian Olympic Academy (Magyar Olimpiai Akadémia) seems to be a structure within the Hungarian Olympic Committee (Magyar Olimpiai Bizottság = MOB). --Nenea hartia (talk) 18:50, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No obvious reason why bandmember should have own page. Doesn't seem to pass WP:BANDMEMBER. Very few internal links. Seaweed (talk) 18:43, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep as "Louisa Solomon" (as this article should be called) easily meets WP:BASIC. Agree that not every band member should have their own Wikipedia article, but in her case, it is justified because of the focused coverage she has received about her anti-Zionist views while identifying as Jewish and queer. This was discussed in The Washington Post (Online) in 2014 when the band's scheduled performance at a festival run by the DC Jewish Community Center was canceled due to her stated political views. There is also a 2014 Wall Street Journal Online article about her as well as the band. If you compare the band's article (The Shondes) with her biography, the two are distinct – and it's important to note that many reviews about The Shondes (e.g. in Rolling Stone) don't even discuss their religion and politics and the band also includes at least one non-Jewish member. Cielquiparle (talk) 21:06, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment It's a fair point, but I just don't see the notability myself. Doesn't seem that significant to merit an entire article. Maybe one sentence in the band's page at best in context of the cancelled concert. Seaweed (talk) 18:41, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This subject fails WP:GNG because only insubstantial coverage is indicated in articles that are all topically about her spouse, or published by her own school. She fails WP:GNG today and is unlikely to garner more substantial coverage in the future due to her being so dead. JFHJr () 05:11, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - I have added in reviews of two of her publications. She wrote under the name Elizabeth Young, which makes searching for discussions of her work a challenge. I suspect there is more coverage of her work, but it requires sifting through articles about similar people. DaffodilOcean (talk) 21:41, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep - I find reviews for multiple books. I also added back some of the text that had been removed prior to the AFD nomination. Fails WP:NSKATE; medal placement at the junior level does not meet the requirements of WP:NSKATE. Google search turns up nothing outside of wikis and scoring databases. With only database source listed, the article of this WP:BLP1E#one-time Olympics participant clearly fails WP:GNG. According to Sports Reference results, Mlakar was not in the top three winners of 1984 Winter Olympics. She also never received any medal record. Corresponding article on Slovene Wikipedia is likewise an unsourced stub. Clara A. Djalim (talk) 10:10, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. There are Mlakar Slovenian news hits for Jana Mlakar. The news pieces are about a museum director/cultural heritage worker. Judging from pictures she doesn't resemble Jana Mlakar Adamič, a seemingly notable ethnologist (and museum employee) who was born in 1962 as well, but on 12 January [18] [19]. I would hope that someone can shed light on who these people are, and whether there is a relation to the skier. Geschichte (talk) 12:44, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. She seems to be notable (given the presentation in the podcast mentioned below) but in-depth sources are missing at the moment. The German Wikipedia contains some more information in de:Jana Mlakar and there may be offline newspaper articles that reported on her in more detail. The museum director/cultural heritage worker was born in 1955 (per Cobiss) and Jana Adamič Mlakar seems to be a completely unrelated person as she is from a different region. --TadejM my talk 02:37, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article is a BLP of a non-notable author, references are self-published sources inc Facebook. No particular claim of notability, says she's exec director of some company but that's not immediately verifiable from their home page. She taught some courses at some organisations, that seems to be about it. -- D'n'B-t -- 17:35, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Timknit (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
  • Delete: Doesn't pass AUTHOR, I can't find book reviews. I don't see anything other than books for sale on the usual platforms. Nothing for biographical notability as I can't find articles about this individual either. Oaktree b (talk) 18:43, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
* Keep: The page is in need of expansion and updating, not deletion. Amber K has writing books since the 1980s, the selection listed on the page is incomplete, as a cursory search for "Almber K bibliography" will indicate. Reviews of her books are likewise easily found on reviews sites, such as Goodreads, and her publisher's official sites as well. Ardantane, her "some company", is an independent, registered 501c3 non-profit corporation established in 1996 in the state of New Mexico and is one of the few Nationally recognized Pagan Schools in the United States. She is also a former First Officer (President) of Covenant of the Goddess (COG), an international organization of Wicca and Witchraft covens and practitioners, whih was founded in 1975. Amber K is also the originator of COG's Youth Service Award "The Hart and Crescent", which was originally designed for those in Scouting, may be earned by youth who are not Scouts as well.
When I have time, I will work on improving the article, provided that it is kept.
(POV: As an aside, I find it questionable that a new Wikipedian's earliest activities on the platform are to suggest articles for deletion.) Ashareem (talk) 00:45, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did notice the Goodreads reviews but I don't belive user generated content counts towards notability any more than the period of time over which books were written or the particular tax registration of a given organisation. -- D'n'B-t -- 10:47, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User-generated content can't be used for notability; that's part of the issue, can't seem to find any critical reviews in sites that aren't blogs or user-generated sites Oaktree b (talk) 20:13, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weak keep somewhat reluctantly, I think there's a case similar to the reasoning behind WP:NARTIST and WP:NMUSICIAN. There's precedent for keeping articles on figures who have been influential within a notable subculture, even if they are not known beyond that subculture. It seems to me that on grounds of WP:SUSTAINED, the volume of work published, and reliable sources describing her as something resembling an authority figure on new age Modern paganism in the United States, she probably edges over into notability. The existing article that's written should probably be tagged for FANPOV. BrigadierG (talk) 16:25, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
