operatic sopranos by country

Thank you for creating all these categories for operatic sopranos in smaller countries, and populating them with patience and diligence from Harriett Abrams to Teresa Żylis-Gara, also adding other more precise categories, for serving literary projects, - Tommy auf verschlungenen Pfaden, you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Thank you Gerda. Just a few hundred more to go, then I can find something else to organize. It's the librarian in me, and Wikipedia is one big library of sorts. Tommy Doyle 18:36, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Unlimited possibilities ;) - category:German operatic baritones - one on the Main page ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:56, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: At the start I figured I'd end up going through the whole range of opera singers. I'm a mediocre amateur tenor myself... Tommy Doyle 19:02, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
I saw Teresa Żylis-Gara as Die Kluge, Octavian, Manon Lescaut and Mimi, and heard her in the radio production of Anna Bolena, - funny, all title roles. I sing alto in choirs, - see my infobox. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:54, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: I'm a bit of an introvert (I only sing for family and friends, and I don't go out) so I have to make due with recordings. Luckily, we've got hundreds of albums on CD and record at the library I work at (in Boston). I've got them all in FLAC on my home computer. Tommy Doyle 20:10, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Rosa Raisa, thank you! Can we get to a reference to every section? She wood make a good DYK, did you know? - Please try to avoid extra large images, - we have readers with small devices. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:40, 17 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Forget it, - too old, that article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:42, 17 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Recent edits - using Cat-A-Lot to change categories...

edit

You changed Axl Rose with this edit, Perry Como with this edit, & Nat King Cole with this edit from "Category:American baritones" to "Category:American operatic baritones"... I disagree with these category changes but would welcome your thoughts. Shearonink (talk) 01:08, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, those are mistakes. I shouldn't have used Cat-A-Lot with the American baritones. I'm just going to run the Canadian and Welsh baritones through it, and then go back to doing them by hand one by one. Tommy Doyle 01:11, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
The idea of Lemmy being an "operatic baritone" is a joke - I suggest you revisit all of your mass changes, and consider each one individually, on merit. - Arjayay (talk) 10:12, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Arjayay: To me, the idea of Axl Rose being any kind of baritone is just plain over-categorization, just like Lemmy and the others. As for revisiting the changes, my choice would be to remove the baritone category completely, which might cause disagreements. I don't think metal singers should be in a classical category. Rose would laugh at being called a baritone. Is Amy Lee a soprano? That just seems weird to me... Tommy Doyle 03:28, 23 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Baritone is simply a vocal range between bass and tenor - so it does not matter what musical style you are singing - operatic, classical, folk, rock etc. Operatic baritone is a baritone known for singing operatic music.
If you wish to remove baritone you would have to apply via WP:Categories for discussion and, frankly, your chances of succeeding are zero, as, by extension, this would require the removal of the entire Category:Voice types - bass, tenor, alto, soprano etc. which is not going to happen.
You created the problem by moving all the baritones into operatic baritones, whether they are/were, or not. If that was required, it should have been discussed and agreed at WP:Categories for discussion, and then could have been done almost instantly by a bot.
I repeat my request for you to revisit your changes. - Thank you - Arjayay (talk) 10:07, 23 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
