The National Times, later National Times on Sunday, was an Australian weekly newspaper published by Fairfax News from 1971 to 1986.[1][2]

Background edit

The paper quickly developed a reputation for accurate investigative journalism, winning four consecutive Walkley Awards for best newspaper feature in 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978.[3][4][5] In the 1980s, it "exposed networks of influence and links between organised crime and public administration in New South Wales".[6][7]

It coincided with the publication of Nation Review (1970 to 1981), also a weekly newspaper. [8]

Current edit

On 20 April 2023, the Croatian businessman Josip Heit took over the The National Times and the trademark. The The National Times is published online, appears around the clock seven days a week in five languages and is based at Glebe Point Road in Sydney. With its media conglomerate, Heit owns 42 daily newspapers on all continents. [9] [10] [11]
