Unsourced updates

An anonymous user added an unsourced section on climate and changed the population data to 2006 census numbers. The section is in the article's history, but because there was no source information I (reluctantly) deleted it. If anyone can substantiate the facts and figures with a source, please re-add this information. -- Rick Block (talk) 17:11, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Incorporation - when?

I have two apparently reliable sources that give two different dates of incorporation for Monument:

1. June 2, 1879: http://www.townofmonument.net/Admin_town_history.asp:

   Monument has been an incorporated town since June 2, 1879. The first town meeting was held July 3, 1879.

Anyone know which is right, or if somehow both are?

What was the town really named after?

I am doubting that the town of Monument was named after Monument Creek. The way I heard it, it was named after Monument Rock. (http://www.mountainzone.com/mountains/detail.asp?fid=974745) The creek was also named after the rock. missing a mention of the challenger flag

I just watched Romney mention the Challenger flag at a rally in Newport News, Va. Went to this page and could find it. I found a separate page on the Challenger flag, that does mention Monument, Co. Svanriesen (talk) 03:21, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Someone keeps adding her name to the notable people. According to the Wikipedia guide she does not meet the requirements for listing as a notable person. Orphaned references in Monument, Colorado

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Monument, Colorado's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Sourcing on Colorado Spring Metro Claim

Hi all, I am removing the claim that "The town is part of the Colorado Springs metropolitan area, which had an estimated population of 700,000 in 2019" due to a severe lack of source documentation. The source that is cited for this fact is just a list of different Colorado municipalities by population and does nothing to confirm or deny Monument as a part of the Co.Spgs. metro area. Even the wikipedia page dedicated to the Co.Spgs. metro area does not include Monument proper (including Woodmoor or Palmer Lake) as contributors to the metro pop. I know many colloquially refer to Monument as "Colorado Springs North" nowadays, but until we can get a wikipedia-verified source that can back up this claim or any of the numerals associated with it, I think it's best to omit this from the page. Government

Someone made the decision to add "On April 1, 2019, the town declared itself to be a Second Amendment sanctuary" to the town overview. Based on the Wikipedia rules and general practices, this seems like something that: (1) does not belong in the overview section and (2) based on the article that it's quoting seems overly-reductive to the point of being misleading about the situation that it's trying to represent. It is not quite a lie that Monument declared itself a 'second amendment sanctuary' in response to the red flag gun bill, but also within the very same article, it's stated that the Sheriff's Office is following all of the new protocols of the bill aside from the search-and-seizure component. Failing to mention that this is the only part of the bill that Monument is refusing to enforce feels misleading. Also, the lack available sources that confirm whether or not any of this has actually been happening in this manner since the bill was enacted in 2019 makes it challenging to really confirm the validity of any of this more than 5 years down the line. I feel strongly that the only place this could reasonably belong on this page would be under a 'controversies' section that has yet to be started. KemistryKody (talk) 01:36, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
