It would be very cool to include some data on ratings/# of listeners for Michigan Radio vs. commercial stations.

Perhaps this was meant to describe only the Michigan Radio stations, but as phrased the statement It is the only station that directly competes with another NPR member, in this case WGVU in Grand Rapids and WMUK in Kalamazoo. seems a little too sweeping. older ≠ wiser 18:12, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

competing with other stations

I removed unsourced material stating that only WVGR "competes" with other NPR affiliates. In contrast, there is signifant overlap between the signals of WUOM/WFUM and those of WDET (Detroit), WEMU (Ypsilanti), WKAR (East Lansing), and WGTE (Toledo). Throughout most of metropolitan Detroit it is possible to choose between all 6 signals, meaning that these four affiliates "compete" with Michigan Radio. Furthermore, since Arbitron no longer publishes an Ann Arbor book, Michigan Radio now "competes" for ratings in the Detroit Arbitron survey - stating that Ann Arbor and Detroit are separate radio markets is misleading at best.

It is correct that of the three, only WVGR shares a community of license with another NPR affiliate, but this is not the same as saying there is no direct competition among affiliates. Radio signals reach far beyond municipal boundaries. Mr. Swordfish (talk) 15:30, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Neutrality

The current article has a bunch of text that seem clearly added by someone who is still unhappy about the move away from classical music several decades ago ("In the wake of these brutal changes there was even a reported suicide at the station, while public outcry was firmly ignored by the station's pompous new director.", "Michigan Radio may have helped influence similarly terrible transitions to that format", "However, all trace of what the station once was in the 1980s and 1990s before this catastrophic take-over and re-organization have otherwise been buried, so that present-day listeners, researchers and others don't even have the opportunity to make a comparison.", etc.).
