this article has great content that is very in-depth and educational. the pacing is strong and you seem to have a good understanding of Janis Coles life. a few things i would consider are firstly it would be a good idea to look more into her personal life and maybe what effect that had on her fascination with the female prison system in canada, secondly i am not sure if this is a mistake or not but in the Education and early life section you mention that they made the film "The Thin Blue Line (1977)"but actually that is an errol morris film that was released in 1988 and the film you are thinking of is Thin Line (1977) which was made by Janis Cole and her work partner. lastly i would add more to the beginning section about the director and i would move the information about the films from early life to career and focus less on the first film she made and more about the overall themes of her films. 21:48, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Jack Chadwick

As a whole, your article is well organized and very informative. The lead is an appropriate summary except that it doesn't mention the themes that Cole's work focuses on (prison). So I would perhaps add a phrase on that. Speaking of such, I would also recommend finding out more about why she chose this subject in particular. The structure and balance of your article is well executed. I would personally separate "later works" and "filmography" into 2 different sub-headings for further organization, but it is not extremely necessary. Your content is neutral and your sources seem reliable. I like that you went into her influence as a feminist and Canadian filmmaker. Is it possible to find out more about her works: Calling the Shots (1988) and Bowie: One in a Million (2001)? Perhaps a summary of the film that mentions its themes as her later works aren't touched on as much as her early works. Great job overall. Very well written. I did not have much editing to do.

Strengths and weaknesses of the article

edit

The article gives a good overview of Janis Cole as a filmdirector. The lead introduces the most important facts about Cole and gives the reader an idea of what the rest of the page will be about. You are talking about the two most notable films in the introduction but since you are only talking extensively about one of them in the actual article, it might be an idea to discuss the movie Cream Soda a bit more than just the two lines written about it now - if there is enough information to be found of course. You also write about the recurring themes in her movies, which I think is a good angle as it shows more about her area of interest in the film industry. However, it does make me interested in the story of how she got interested in these areas. Is there any information about this to add to the article? The use of the quote in your article is super relevant and makes it a strong paragraph in my opinion. Your writing is clear and explicit. The information is presented in a good order and you use straightforward language which makes it easy to understand and read. You've used reliable sources and the wikilinks where needed. I think I would only change the order of the films she directed and the years, by switching the columns so the years come first. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ditisvoormijnuniversiteit (talkcontribs) 19:45, 9 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
