I removed the following sentence: During the course of 2006, it will surpass Indianapolis as America's 12th largest city with a population of approximately 810,000 residents. First of all, what is 'it'? If 'it' is Jacksonville then this belongs in the Jacksonville article. If 'it' is Duval County, well, Duval County isn't a city. Onyourside 17:50, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

I fixed the erroneous presidential election data, but someone decided to revert to the prior version. My numbers are from Dave Leip's authoritative Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections, in which all of the information is meticulously sourced, so I know they are correct (besides, had Bush really gotten only 50% in Duval County in 2000, Gore would have carried the state without a recount being plausible. OK, I guess that the Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections, http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/, is not considered a "relible source" (someone should tell the thousands of political professionals who pay for its premium content), so I went to the Duval County Supervisor of Elections website and confirmed that the numbers I had gotten from the Atlas for 2004 and 2000 were indeed correct. Here are the numbers for 2004: http://www.duvalelections.com/ERSummary.aspx?eid=9 and here are the ones for 2000: http://www.duvalelections.com/Election.aspx?eid=2 BTW, the Duval elections site only goes back to 2000, so I *did not* change the incorrect results for prior elections (which, BTW, were input without a source by whomever it was that did so). I have taken the sources mentioned by AuH2ORepublican in his edit summaries and properly cited them in the article. The whole point is that sources need to be cited in the article to be of any value. Thank you very much, Mr. Albury. I finally grasp what the problem with my post was. The fact that none of the (incorrect) election data that had been included in the article had cited a source made me think that it was not necessary to include a footnote with a source in order to correct them. Mr. Albury, I have corrected the electoral results for 1988-1996 and cited the specific page of the Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections as the source. However, I'm not sure what non-"premium members" of uselectionatlas.org may see when they click on the link (I see the complete results for Duval County for each election, but then again I'm a "premium member"). If the source does not meet with Wikipedia's sourcing policies because it is not accessible to all, I would urge you to either (i) make an exception and leave them as I edited them, since they are correct and verifiable by anyone willing to pay $25 to become a premium member of that site or (ii) delete the voting results for each of 1988, 1992 and 1996 altogether, since it's better not to include any results for those elections than to include the risible "results" that were there before I fixed them (BTW, not only was the info provided for 1992 overstate Bush's percentage in the county by more than 10%, it gave him a vote percentage that he did not come close to achieving in any county in the state in 1992, when Perot got close to 20% statewide). Orphaned references in Duval County, Florida

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Duval County, Florida's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Edited the URL for the Public Defender, 4th Judicial Circuit of Florida serving Duval, Clay, and Nassau Counties

I changed the hyperlink for the Public Defender, 4th Judicial Circuit of Florida serving Duval, Clay, and Nassau Counties to its actual website; prior to that, the hyperlink was the personal website of Matt Shirk, which I will not link here. There is no reason to link to his personal website here.

Matt Shirk is described by The Jacksonville Tributary, a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom investigating issues that affect everyone in Jacksonville, Florida as a "disgraced former public defender, Matt Shirk, once a rising Republican star who then squandered his chances at a political future when he hired women based on their physical appearance, propositioned them, fired them after his wife told him to, deleted public records, drank in the office, diverted campaign funds to his child’s private school, violated the attorney-client privilege of a 12-year-old, paid his attorneys the lowest salaries in the state, gave away office guns to a motorcycle club without documenting it and used the office’s spending power to pay for lavish hotels."

Some of that information is contained within the description o the edit. I think it is necessary to include the full information in the text of the article. It is clear that Matt Shirk, someone working on his behalf or in his favor changed the hyperlink, so that it would link to Matt Shirk's private blog. That is abuse of Wikipedia's editing policies, and it is a blatant attempt to divert Wikipedia users and readers from finding accurate information, to finding information published by Matt Shirk.

The description of Shirk and his history, as collated in the The Jacksonville Tributary, is one that indicates his history. From his history it is possible to infer that he is the sort of person who is interested in self-promotion.

If you think there is any reason to revert, or to change the edit, it is here, however the page has been blatantly and unashamedly changed to aid Shirk, and that is consistent with his history of abuses. He has abused people, and he has been found by the courts to have done so, and now he (or possibly someone who is working in his favour), has done it again. The Duval County PD office has suffered again and again at the hands of corrupt defenders, those who, like Shirk, stole from the government and abused their position, it has caused the incarceration of the innocent. It has led to theft. It has led to special favor in exchange for political patronage. The list almost endless. They are, in fact, so numerous that anyone within Duval County can name them. Instances like this. Or this. Or this.

Those are just three of the continual abuses of the position conducted by Shirk, but such abuses have been rife in the office for years.

They go on, and on, and have gone on, and on. Shirk was the most mendacious and iniquitous in recorded history. His iniquities cannot continue here on Wikipedia.

I submit that Wikipedia cannot be used as another source of defiling the Duval County PD's office. Enough is enough. Matt Shirk can promote his private blog elsewhere.
