Fair use rationale for Image:Tv6newsscreen.jpg

Our home wrongly taken away by ruthless neighbors

April 10th, 2009

To Whom it may concern:

I am writing in reference to a very disturbing and dangerous situation that recently happened to my family and their home which is located at Pole, 92 Morne Coco Le Platte Village Maraval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies. This situation has caused us an extensive deal of grief and also has been very expensive and inconvenient for both me and my family. It has caused us major emotional and physical anguish and torment.

My families has been residents of our home and location for over 40 years now and have never once had any issues or problems up until recently, when the next door neighbor, Hannif Mohammad and his son in law, Bobby, decided to purchase the property just in front of our home in which is located on top of a hill and perform some drastic dirt removal that caused us to loose our home. I had originally paid for and put up a second stone wall several years ago just in front of my homes pillars for extra support along with the other existing wall that was previously set up and put in place to prevent any danger or complications to our home and its stability. The Neighbor and his son in law recently took down that/their existing wall that was just in front of mine, causing my extra supporting stone wall to also collapse, resulting in excess land caving from directly under our home and its foundation and the house has been cracking in several places and falling apart more and more on a daily basis in turn causing unstable and hazardous living conditions for my family since April 10th 2009. This home has been built by my father over 40 years ago, and has been worked on where ever and when ever we can for the past 40 years. This house is owned and paid for free and clear by me, Annmarie and I have never had any problems what so ever within this 40 year time period.

They have been performing some major and not very well thought out or carefully planned landscaping, in which in turn has developed life threatening living conditions in which they did nothing about but continued their digging and dirt removal. Their improper actions and lack of proper planning has caused my families lives to be in constant danger due to the disrupting of the foundation of our home by removing and disturbing the stability of the foundation and of the supporting land, dirt and stone walls in front of our home. My family have no where else to live or sleep and has a young child that lives with them. For the past week, they lived in constant fear of their lives and had to constantly be alert, listening and looking for every little noise or movement that occurs, so that they can literally jump up and run out of the house every couple of hours for fear of their lives due to caving land from directly under their home. The house has fallen in on April 16th 2009 and the person responsible for the loss of our home stated that he is not taking any responsibility what so ever for the damages to our property or the loss of our home and he would like for us to break down the front of the house ourselves so that he can finish re-place the original wall that he took down which caused this problem in the first place and then if we wanted, we can then rebuild back our home ourselves as he has nothing to do with that. Now my family has no place to live and no assistance from this person that took our home from us. My family has to literally stay in the road with no where to go due to this neighbor and his son in laws ruthless doings that caused them their home.

This person had put my family in a life threatening and dangerous situation and now on the street without any remorse. I would like for this person to take responsibility for his wrong actions and either purchase another home for my family to live in, rebuild my families original home so that they would have somewhere to live or purchase the home for a reasonable price so that I can at least be able to afford another little suitable home for my family without putting myself in additional unneeded, unnecessary and unaffordable expense that I didn’t expect as our home was paid for free and clear out right in the first place.

Bobby has also dug away our 40 year old existing dirt walkway track that runs from the road up the hill to our house, leaving us in danger of falling off the steep hill into his land below each time we pass.

I will appreciate any help and assistance that you would be able to offer me to get this situation resolved. I would like this gentleman to be reasonable to me and my family and either purchase our home for my asking price so that I can acquire another little suitable place for my family to reside without putting me in any additional expense or he can offer to rebuild my families home and its previous stone wall, along with re-cutting and reestablishing a reasonable and suitable walkway to and from the road.
