Talib Ahmed Bensouda (born in 1986) is a Gambian politician who has served as the mayor Kanfing Municipal Council since May 2018.

Early life and education edit

Talib Ahmed Bensouda was born in 1986 to Ahmed Bensouda, former Permanent Secretary (retired) and lawyer Amie Bensouda from Bakau.[1] Talib attended Marina International School and graduated in 2003, upon completion of his IGCS. He later moved to Hamilton, Canada where he studied for a college diploma and then to the city of Mississauga, where he enrolled in the university of Toronto to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Communications Technology in, 2007. He also completed his Insurance Foundation Diploma from the West African Insurance Institute in 2012.[1]

Talib Ahmed Bensouda worked as an insurance salesperson with Gray Power Insurance in Canada. He also worked with 1800-GOT-JUNA, a junk collection company that sales recycle to Toronto Waste Management Company as a sales lead.[2][3]In 2010 he returned to the Gambia and was employed by Takaful Gambia Limited, an Islamic Insurance Institute as a marketing manager.

Mayor of KMC edit

Talib Ahmed Bensouda is the youngest mayor in Gambia. He contested for the post under the United Democratic Party [4]. Bensouda of the UDP received 29,325 votes. His closest rival Rambo Jattan of the APRC got 17,392. Other contestants include Papa Njie an independent candidate who received 8,327 votes, Bakary Badjie another independent candidate got 5,236 votes. Adama Bah of the PDOIS got 2,941 votes, Dawda Njie GDC candidate got 2,247 votes, Francis Gomez an independent candidate got 812, Modou Jenkins an independent candidate 645 votes, and B. Senghorre an independent candidate 330 votes.[5]

Re-election edit

He was reelected as the mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council on 20 May, 2023[6] in the 2023 Gambian local elections. He secured 56, 094 votes while his closest rival National People's Party's Bakary Y Badjie got 42,432 and independent candidate Pa Modou Mbowe] got 5,092 votes.[7]
