Stephen Wanton Gould (c. 1781 - 1 October 1838) was born in Newport, Rhode Island, to James and Hannah Gould.

Biography edit

He married Hannah Rodman and the couple had one son, John Stanton Gould. Stephen was an active Quaker in the Society of Friends, and worked as a clock repairer in Newport, Rhode Island from 1796 to 1827. [2] From 1799 to 1838 he would write about his meetings with the Society of Friends and daily life. During the War of 1812 he wrote negatively of the United States involvement and opposition to warfare. [3]
