Civil Aviation Technology College

The Civil Aviation Technology College (CATC College)(Higher Education Center of Civil Aviation and Airports of the country) is the oldest training centre providing specialized manpower needed by Iran's civil aviation industry, It has been operating since 1938 (officially 1940) the order of King Reza Pahlavi.[1][2] The College conducts its training programs in line with rules & regulations of Iranian Ministry of Higher Education. Also, this centre is a member of the Trainer Plus program of the International Civil Aviation Organization known as ICAO. [2]

Also, according to the growing needs of the aviation industry, short-term specialized and in-service courses approved by the Civil Aviation Organization, the International Civil Aviation Organization and the International Air Transport Association are offered in this centre. Civil Aviation Technology College is located on Meraj Street at the Mehrabad International Airport.

Name edit

Before its official establishment, it was called the Aero Club (in Persian: باشگاه خلبانی). In the early years of its establishment, that is, from the 1940s, was a special school dedicated to the entire Civil Aviation, and after the revolution, it was also known by the same name.

Courses edit

Flight control engineering (air traffic controller) edit

Controllers (flight control experts) with careful and watchful eyes monitor the real-time and computer changes of the radar screens and use radar and radio frequencies to guide the planes in the sky and tell the pilots which direction to turn. take off, land and increase or decrease their speed and many other issues until there is no interference and they enjoy complete separation and safety.

Electrical engineering, electronics edit

Graduates of this field install, operate, maintain and repair airport equipment. Of course, electronics students can get their avionics degree (B2) from the Civil Aviation Organization by passing units. This degree enables them to work on the navigation, communication and electronic systems of the aircraft itself, or in other words, to work in airlines alongside aircraft maintenance specialists. All electronic engineering courses are taught in this field. For this reason, students in this field can continue their studies in all electrical engineering fields for higher levels.

Electrical engineering, communications edit

This field is somewhat different from electronics in terms of scope of work, although specialists in this field can apply for an avionics degree (B2) like aviation electronics specialists due to their common electrical knowledge. The first continuous bachelor's course in aviation telecommunication engineering was recruited from the national entrance exam in the field of mathematics and physics in 2019. Aviation telecommunication engineers include a group of specialists who provide a lot of information about the flight (such as meteorological data, some special information, etc.) through existing platforms (such as AFTN, etc.) to the aircraft itself or other departments in airports. Specialists in this field mainly need computer, network and information technology knowledge. Students in this field can continue their studies in all branches of electrical engineering for higher levels.

Short courses edit

Turbine Aircraft Maintenance Technician Course edit

The graduates of this course will be introduced to the flight standard office of the Civil Aviation Organization while obtaining the certificate of passing the course. Holders of this certificate must refer to one of the airlines to gain 2 years of work experience and after passing this period and obtaining the performance approval from that airline, they will be introduced to the Civil Aviation Organization to receive their main certificate. Holders of this certificate, according to the Civil Aviation Organization, are authorized to issue safety certificates for aircraft and its components (in engine and fuselage parts - mechanical equipment) for flight.[3]

Holders of relevant academic degrees Mechanics can apply for a B1 Certificate by choosing an adaptive course with a shorter course duration.[3]

Avionic Maintenance Technician Course edit

Graduates of this course will be introduced to the flight standard office of the Civil Aviation Organization while obtaining the certificate of passing the course, and after confirming the transcripts sent by the faculty, they will succeed in obtaining a temporary B2 type certificate, which means passing the organization's written exams. Holders of this certificate must refer to one of the airlines to gain 2 years of work experience and after passing this period and obtaining the performance approval from that airline, they will be introduced to the Civil Aviation Organization to receive their main certificate. Holders of this certificate are authorized by the Civil Aviation Authority to issue safety certificates for aircraft and its components.[3]

Holders of relevant academic degrees such as various majors in electrical engineering can apply for a B2 certification by choosing a comparative course with a shorter course duration.[3]

Airplane Ticketing edit

This training course is in both introductory and advanced levels. Each course is held for two weeks.[3]

Notable alumni edit

Due to the relocation and renaming of this college and the change of teaching disciplines throughout history, people may have studied in disciplines and places that are not currently part of the college now.
