Wikipedia:WikiProject China/Transportation task force

Title

edit

This task force shall be referred to as the Transportation in China task force.

Hierarchy definition

edit

Goals

edit
  1. Standarise layout and presentation on all transportation-related articles to better provide readers a more reader-friendly appearance.

Scope

edit

All airports, seaports, expressways, roads of all grades, and railways, should be in the scope of this task force. Geographically, this is limited to mainland China. Taiwan does not form part of this task force.

Participants

edit

Everyone with an interest is welcome to take part in this project.

Structure

edit

Please Note

edit
  • So far, the definition for seaports has not been formed. Participants are free to form it if they wish.
  • If external sites exist for these items, link them, please!

General Info

edit
  • Expressway exit numbering is optional but is a welcome component of every expressway article.
  • If no speed limit is known assume it to be the nationwide 120 km/h.
  • The "Road Conditions" section doesn't need to be completed in full if full information is not available on hand.
  • The layout structures as shown below represent what the articles might look like when it is completed in full. It is not a skeleton layout that must be completed on its first go; rather, it is a blueprint for article evolution. Incomplete entries are accepted! :-)
  • The schematic map section will be defined soon.

Image Guidelines

edit

Please, people: no copyright violations. The monetary expenditures and deadpan judges are too much for us. ;-)

The images we value the most are images which are licensed under a permissible free license that is also accepted on Commons or are in the public domain. In a very limited set of circumstances fair use may be allowed, for example for the depiction of a demolished airport for which no freely licensed images exist.

Try to make every picture of every road/airport/expressway/etc... look like that the image shows something of its speciality. We all can take pictures of roads (black background, white interrupted lines, etc...), so try to make something that has a speciality of its own. Don't knock yourself out taking great photos. Photos complement the article, but remember this isn't exactly an art gallery. 80%-100% good pictures are accepted with wide open arms. Nobody dictated that we are a top-notch photo club! :-)

Don't forget the caption -- neither too short nor too long. Expressways/railway stations/airports/etc..., although they're immovable, do change over time. A little something along the lines of "(July 2004 image)" or so would be fine.

Templates

edit

Please take a look at the current template (as an example) for Beijing roads and expressways: Template:Roads and Expressways of Beijing. It should look something like:

Please either base templates on this standard or adjust them to fit requirements as seen fit.

Portal

edit

Please help add comprehensive coverage worldwide on the world international road portal, and if there are any additions which could be made from many countries or regiona that would be awesome.

  1. For instance, a successful DYK could be added.
  2. Feel free to directly add quality, or featured road related images or panoramas. If a photo is not recognised by being classified as quality or featured, then it should be of finer quality like would be in a magazine or print encyclopaedia, as a portal showcases Wikipedia's finer work, in this case the portal roads showcases Wikipedia road finer work world wide.
  3. Feel free to directly add featured, A or GA class. Roads content articles to the above list which are now rotated automatically through the portal. Other articles may be nominated here. If an article is at B class it could also be submitted, with a strong lead, as a short one or two sentence lead is hard to put that intro on the front page of a portal.
