The television series follows the mountain man, Jim Bridger, through the Western frontier. Numerous stories and tales develop as a new wave of Americans head west. His legendary status during this historic period is told with the various instances he helps Americans in life-and-death situations.[2][3]
The debut episode depicts when Bridger's second-in-command begins to rule the camp with violence to improve camp discipline. Other episodes in the season follow the characters within Bridger's camp as they head into uncharted territory.[4]
