Capitalization

edit

Why is Storage Area Network written with capital initial letters? Michael Hardy 17:17, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)

For the same reason that Random Access Memory, on the rare occassions that it is spelt out, is done so thusly - the normal way of writing it is as the abbreviation, SAN.
Move to Storage Area Network?

Absolutely. Most computing terms that are abbreviated are written with capitals when spelled out, so as to explain the otherwise obfuscated acrostics which we tend to use. Storage Area Network is ALWAYS capitalized in ALL industry publications, as is Network-Attached Storage (which sometimes lacks the hyphen) and many other computer industry terms. Take my word for it - I'm an editor at Storage Magazine!--SFoskett 19:09, Sep 1, 2004 (UTC)
OK ...... Very often the way people in the computer field write makes me think that mastering human language is very difficult for them. Oh, well, as Emily Litella would say .... Michael Hardy 19:18, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Alright, so we all have had a bit of an editing war here. I have proposed a standard for capitalization of industry jargon here. Please stop editing these articles until the matter is settled in a Wiki fashion!--SFoskett 14:29, Sep 2, 2004 (UTC) hh

Shouldn't SIFS in the diagram read CIFS instead ? If not, what does SIFS stand for ? Found the article Short Interframe Space, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIFS) but I don't see the relation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.66.48.163 (talk) 07:53, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Video editing / bandwidth quotas

edit

I know something about Xsan and MetaSAN, and to my knowledge neither supports bandwidth quotas. 24.172.190.162 (talk) 17:39, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Storage area network#In media and entertainment now talks about QoS. No mention of quotas. ~Kvng (talk) 14:27, 25 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

LUN

edit

This wikipedia entry starts using the TLA LUN without explaination... Can all this disk storage technology be explained/introduced better? I expect your typical programmer/engineer knows about hard drives, floppy drives and possibly has heard of SCSI, but the rest warrants some definition and description... Please can someone who understands computer storage and knows how to write technical English help! 80.4.63.73 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 19:48, 21 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

LUN => Logical Unit Number — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.126.154.212 (talk) 20:22, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
LUN is now first used in Storage area network#Storage layer, about one-third the way into the article. ~Kvng (talk) 14:30, 25 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
