Advertising?

edit

Much of this reads like a PR sheet for the firm, but that seems to be a rampant problem for pages for commercial entities. Redneb 19:33, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

This seems to be the case at times. By all means, if you think you can improve it, please do so, and be bold. SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:17, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
The only text I could find that read like an advertisement was in the header;
"Sheetz has marketed the Sheetz loadable gift card, the Sheetz Z-Card; Sheetz chicken wings, marketed as "Shwingz"; the Sheetz breakfast sandwich marketed as "Shmuffinz" and "Nachoz.""
...which I have just removed.
Is there any other wording that still justifies the {{advert notice?        — BoringJim (talk) 09:20, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism of this page

edit

Just by looking at the recent edits, it seems like there has been a lot of vandalism as of late. I'm glad that someone is keeping up on these, but still, what do you think we should do about it?--Jgera5 18:43, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just have to clean up their messes after they've finished soiling our articles, and follow standard procedures to get persistent vandals blocked. See Wikipedia:Vandalism for more information. Not much else you can do. SchuminWeb (Talk) 01:50, 12 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I wish there were something we could do better. Jgera5 17:28, 13 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

<refactored comment> Please give me an answer on why subjects keep getting deleted?(Dkmluck11 (talk) 06:53, 22 March 2008 (UTC)).Reply

I've anwered on your talk page, but essentially, the content you keep trying to add is potentially defamatory material that has no reliable source per Wikipedia:Verifiability policy. You'll need to find a source for that content. Dreadstar 06:56, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

ok thanx once i got to court i'll use that as my source and also is there any other way that I could delver my message publically through wikipedia that won't be deleted (Dkmluck11 (talk) 07:09, 22 March 2008 (UTC)).Reply

Someone keeps changing everywhere it says "Sheetz" on this page to "Shitz." I tried changing it, but they keep changing it right back. 11:41 AM ET 9 September 2011 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.158.14.195 (talk) 15:41, 9 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have reverted the remainder of the vandalism, and blocked the vandal. Thank you for letting us know about this most recent bit of vandalism. SchuminWeb (Talk) 03:05, 10 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Restaurant Health Codes

edit

There is no law (at least in Pennsylvania) requiring males working in a restaurant to be clean shaven. In fact, it is not even required that hair be restrained in a kitchen. However, most restaurants make these rules in-house to eliminate some customer complaints. But you can rest assured that there are no laws regarding hair or fingernails in a restaurant. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Primium mobile (talkcontribs) .

In response to above comment: Sheetz strives to have all of it's store as similar as possible, so they take the toughest rules from all the states they are in and apply it to all stores. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.29.206.62 (talkcontribs) .
In resonse to the first comment: I know a lot of people that work for Sheetz, and they said that they follow restaurant-style health code standards. Which considering how popular their MTO's are, it makes sense. I was the one who originally added that to begin with. Jgera5 03:52, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not debating what anyone has said. I'm just saying that there are no formal laws in Pennsylvania regarding hair restraint. I've been a restaurant manager in Pennsylvania for ten years now, and there has never been any law like that, although most of the public believes that there is. Local health departments and the PA Department of Agriculture are far more concerned with sanitation and temperature control than they are with hair, and that's why none of their rules mention it. However, most food service establishments do have internal rules to prevent hair and other "body parts" from finding its way into food or on to food preparation surfaces. But that's more for business reasons (customers don't like hair or fingernails or scabs in their food) than it is for health code reasons. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Primium mobile (talkcontribs) .

What do you think about the way I rephrased it? "Common standards" don't have to mean laws. Elpablo69 05:10, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tone

edit

I tagged this article because everything on this page sounds like it was written as an advertisement. There is nothing about the two food-borne illness scares, just as an example. The list or superlatives is almost as long as the regular article. Primium mobile 15:50, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that the article sounds too much like an advertisement. I've been watching this page for quite a while and the food-borne illness scares were never mentioned as far as I can remember. I think they should be mentioned, but nobody has taken the time to do so. I don't think this article contains any more superlatives as do most company Wikipedia articles (ie. Wawa). Shanafme 16:13, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some of it sounds like an ad, but you can probably change just a few things (delete, re-phrase) and make it much better. I've done a few changes. The facts most certainly need some other additions to represent a balanced neutral POV. Elpablo69 05:10, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Works for me. I like it. SchuminWeb (Talk) 07:34, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Gasoline

edit

Can anyone verify where Sheetz and Wawa and the like get their gasoline? I understood they simply got it from "local" refineries, but there is nothing really solid I can add to the page based on that.. --Armandoban 19:02, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Facts (aka Trivia) section of page

edit

I disagree with SchuminWeb's removal of this section of the page. While I agree that some of the items should be removed due to lack of a citation, there are several items that were in the fact list that do indeed have citations. Could we get rid of the "offending" items and keep the rest? Shanafme 12:28, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Trivia sections are generally not good to have in the first place. If it's cited, and it can be worked into the main text, then go for it. The trivia section, however, is staying gone. SchuminWeb (Talk) 18:12, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I didn't realize that you had the final word on what stays in and out of a Wikipedia page. Can you provide me with some links to Wikipedia policy that supports your statement? If so, then I will add them to the text. Otherwise, I still believe the facts that are cited should stay as they had.Shanafme 23:20, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
WP:TRIVIA. Part of the manual of style. SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:27, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Interesting. That same article states "Don't simply remove trivia sections, but seek to integrate each fact into the article in a more organized fashion."Shanafme 18:43, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
It was also almost entirely unsourced. The one bit with a source has been integrated into the article. It says on the {{unreferenced}} template that "Any material not supported by sources may be challenged and removed at any time," and I did. SchuminWeb (Talk) 19:28, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
The part that was sourced was not part of the text article at time of deletion.Shanafme 13:01, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I got bored, so I added what I could find sources to in the main text. Shanafme 23:51, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Sheetz Logo.gif

edit

Image:Sheetz Logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:09, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image of a newer Sheetz?

Bob Sheetz Article

edit

Is there a need for the Bob Sheetz article? It seems to have much of the same information that is in this article. TheDude2006 (talk) 22:05, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unless someone can add significant information about Mr. Sheetz that is unrelated to this article, I say we go ahead with the merge. Henrymrx (talk) 22:41, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've gone ahead and just redirected Bob Sheetz over to Sheetz. I highly doubt we'll find anything for that title that's beyond what would go in the Sheetz article, so I put the smaller article out of its misery. SchuminWeb (Talk) 03:36, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jeff Reed paper towel dispenser incident

edit

This is just trivia, and adds nothing to the article.

I vote remove. Athomsfere 68.102.2.241 (talk) 03:18, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm inclined to agree - it has nothing to do with Sheetz, and all to do with Jeff Reed (American football). Since the incident is adequately covered in the article about Reed, and Sheetz was simply unfortunate enough to be the place where he flashed, by having a whole section on it, we're giving it undue weight. Removing. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:31, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Competition Section

edit

I think this section needs to be cut from the article. It doesn't add any information about the article's main subject and could possibly violate undue weight. Thoughts? Henrymrx (t·c) 22:15, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, and cut. SchuminWeb (Talk) 23:26, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Footprint map

edit

I stuck it right below the logo on the infobox; if you think it's ugly, by all means move it. Magog the Ogre (talk) 01:13, 10 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Looked really weird in the box, so I moved it into the row of pictures we have going on down the right side. SchuminWeb (Talk) 03:15, 10 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Footprint Map needs to be updated. I'll give just a couple of examples; In Pennsylvania there is a Sheetz in McConnellsburg, Fulton County. That county does not have a dot representing that location. Also, Palmyra in Lebanon County has a store, and the only dot represented in Lebanon County is for a Super Sheetz in Lebanon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.235.154.54 (talk) 16:25, 24 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

To me, this brings the real utility of the footprint map into question. Do we really want to mark a dot on the map for every single Sheetz? Probably not. This is also not supposed to be a store locator, and that would run afoul of WP:NOTDIR anyway. The whole map can be summed up by saying, "Sheetz has locations in the mid-Atlantic United States." Thus if the map is inaccurate, I'm inclined to just drop it with no replacement. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:54, 24 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'd really like the map if it were accurate... Just from a quick glance I can tell that there are several Sheetz missing. I like the idea of the map, but it needs to be updated fairly regularly to be useful. --Shanafme (talk) 16:25, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Which says to me that we should probably just ditch the map entirely. It would probably be more trouble than it's worth to maintain, and so I'm going to just plain remove it, since it's inaccurate anyway. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:19, 3 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
OK, I screwed up that map pretty bad (I found a coding error that left out like half the stores) - I've fixed it. However, I still find it quite helpful to be able to view a map to see the locations where a store exists, so I'm going to put it back as it seems like most opposition here is because I goofed it up so badly. The other objection, regarding needing to maintain it: I don't think that will be nearly as bad of a problem as its inaccuracy. Magog the Ogre (talk) 05:11, 3 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
That map is completely wrong. As of today, (5-9-12) Sheetz has around 419 locations. There aren't even close to that many locatioins shown on this map. The Butler/Lyndora area alone has at least four, yet there is only one on the map. Primium mobile (talk) 17:19, 8 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've just updated the footprint map to approximate a current map, as of this writing. Of course, it'll progressively grow out of date, as time marches on. I included a soon-to-open location at 3208 N Duke St, in Durham, NC. Also, I did not exclude locations that Sheetz, presently, indicates as "Temporarily Closed", since, if they're good enough for the company to continue to list on the sheetz.com location search, then they're good enough to map. For anyone for whom these things might be an issue, please think of the footprint map as an anthropological study.
I'd like to express great respect and appreciate to @Magog the Ogre: for originating the concept of branch maps on wikipedia, not to mention him doing the hard work of programming a system by which someone like me, with nothing more than a set of coordinates, could so easily create such a map.
Wikipedia is lucky to have him.      — BoringJim (talk) 09:20, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@BoringJim: I did a bit of poking around their store locator and found they list 599 sites: https://orderz.sheetz.com/sas/store.
I've collected the latitudes and longitudes here for reference: https://pastebin.com/0rV9KUnd. Magog the Ogre (tc) 12:10, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
