Self-promotion?

edit

Hello,

The current article seems to be mainly formed from the edits of OscarJuan (talk · contribs), who appears to be the Oscar Bonello that is mentioned at least a couple of times in the article. This strikes me as self-promotion, and a conflict of interest (see WP:COI). I'm not convinced of the notability of some of the material he's introduced ("Bonello's Criterion"?), and suggest significant copyediting, and probably removal of a lot of this material. After closer inspection, this self-promotion by Bonello (and his legion of co-workers) seems to have occurred on multiple articles. I've cleaned up most of them, and have wiped the added material here. If I've gone too far, feel free to revert as needed (so long as you're not someone with a conflict of interest!)... Bonello is indeed listed on page 56 of my copy of Ballou. I greatly trimmed the self-promotional bits and any reference to 'bad' and 'good' room numbers, as well as any notion that Bonello's calculation completely solves the problem. Binksternet (talk) 16:30, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that some editors (see at History of this page) discriminates Latin American engineers and researchers. Frequently Oscar Bonello of Argentina is discriminated although he is a Fellow member of AES, New York. He is probably the most respected researcher in Audio Engineering and Acoustics in Latin America. He teaches at several universities with thousand of graduated engineers or doctorate students. If you are not convinced, please do a test. Go to the AES website (www.aes.org >> awards) and get a list of Fellow members. Take a few names, of well known researchers (all with the same FELLOW degree). Then go to Wikipedia using the “Google search option” and search for names between quotes; you will find:

    • Leo Beranek He has 265 entries in Wikipedia
    • James Moir He has 98 entries
    • Robert Moog He has 166 entries
    • Ray Dolby He has 45 entries
    • Oscar Bonello He only has 15 entries

Then when an editor erases any contribution of Bonello as “promotion” please note that he lies; it is a simple act of discrimination, that is unfair and privates the Wikipedia readers of knowing his important contributions. I ask to his many past students to edit articles to help that the Latin American Science and Engineering will be known at the level it deserves. There was a graph of the acoustic response of a room with "bad dimensions". What the hell are bad dimensions? This content was not encyclopedic, and I removed those parts and reworked the parts that deserved keeping. Binksternet (talk) 06:34, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merger with Acoustic space

The result of this discussion was to merge under WP:BOLD. SuddenBowsprit (talk) 16:56, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Acoustic space is a close cousin to the content on this page, focusing primarily on applications of room acoustics. Since Room Acoustics is a widely accepted term to describe a subdiscipline of acoustics and "acoustic space" is not, I propose to merge the unique information contained in acoustic space into this page. Do you have support for your assertion that room acoustics is a widely accepted term. Another term and article I'll throw into the mix here is architectural acoustics.
But, on the main point, it does look like merging Acoustic space and Room acoustics would be fairly straightforward and appears to be a good idea. ~Kvng (talk) 14:36, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
You raise a good point. In the future, I think merging room acoustics as a subsection of the architectural acoustics page would be a good plan (as in practice, it's considered a subdiscipline of architectural acoustics), but should likely be addressed in an independent merge request.
Regarding my assertion for the widespread use of the term room acoustics, I can direct you to the following pages of the Acoustical Society of America: The mission statement of the ASA Technical Committee on Architectural Acoustics specifically mentions the concept: https://tcaaasa.org/. Additionally, there has been a dedicated special issue on room acoustics in JASA, the Journal of the ASA: https://asa.scitation.org/toc/jas/collection/10.1121/jas.2019.RAC2019.issue-1 Similarly, the MDPI Acoustics journal has hosted their own special issue on room acoustics, found here: https://www.mdpi.com/journal/acoustics/special_issues/room_acoustics. I can provide more examples, but given the special issues from two peer-reviewed journals, I think the point has been adequately illustrated. SuddenBowsprit (talk) 08:38, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

See RT60. I've added a link and def. ~Kvng (talk) 01:26, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
