Treatment Options

edit

The references used in the treatment options were not up to Wikipedia's standards. One referred to a menstrual pain website. Another referred to the non-peer reviewed alternative medicine dictionary. Any treatments cited with low-reliability websites were removed from the page. Please make sure that rigorous medical websites and journals are used as references. dermoid cyst

edit

The discussion of dermoid cyst here needs rewriting. A dermoid cyst more often occurs outside the ovary, and histologically it is a kind of teratoma. That is medically important. This page needs to be revised to indicate that the ovary can have a teratoma, and that the teratoma can be a dermoid cyst or a struma ovarii, or a fetus in fetu (I know a woman who had one of these removed at age 6!), or another form of teratoma. And that the teratoma can be benign or malignant. Una Smith 18:19, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reference for study?

edit

Does anyone know the reference or source for this statement, found in the hemorrhagic cyst section? "Studies have found that women on tetracycline antibiotics recover 25% earlier than the majority of patients, a surprising correlation found in 2004." Glacialfury 03:23, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Quality of References

Some of the references don't point to current pages

  • 17 www.lakeside.ca/Patient_Info/ovarian_cysts.htm for example

Some seem commercial,

This one 8 www.usc.edu/hsc/dental/opath/Chapters/DictionaryF.html seems to require a UCS login

Other Medical articles have references to some of the standard Medical texts (ie Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine) or relevant review articles.

Orphan complaint re plagarism

It's good to attribute the original authors of the work. But on their page, at the bottom, they clearly state: "REPRODUCTION OF ANY PART OF THIS WEBSITE BY ANY MEANS, INCLUDING ELECTRONIC, IS EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED WITHOUT PRIOR WRITTEN CONSENT." Help needed...citing external sources

edit

I added a reference section and have begun adding reference tags to the many inline external links being used as citations, but it looks like the links need additional corrections. Please see WP:Footnote and WP:CITE for more information. Flowanda | Talk 05:18, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Factual Error in Ovarian Cyst article

edit

The article currently states that '1% of ovarian cysts are benign.' This is exactly opposite of the fact. I believe it needs to say '1% of ovarian cysts are 'malignant.'

Please change this fact ASAP -- These false statistic could greatly concern anyone who is researching this topic.

"Functional"

edit

If this is the ordinary use of term please clarify the function. If it is a special usage then that should be made clear. Lycurgus (talk) 14:15, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

"although these are usually immature follicles, as only about 15% of women with PCOS have true ovarian cysts.[1]"

Why are immature follicles not true cysts? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 02:27, 26 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
