Medal record

edit

I think it is unnecessary to include "Norwegian Championships summer/winter" medals in the medal count. It looks like a Norwegian Championship gold is juxtaposed with an Olympic gold. There are no wikipedia biathlete's page except Bjørndalen's that has this absurd medal count. The standard wikipedia biathlete medal record includes; Olympic medals, World Championships medals and Junior/Youth World Championships medals. I do not know who has done this mistake, and that person may have worked hard, but the Norwegian Championship (NC) medals should in my opinion be removed/deleted. Alternatively, the NC medals or number of NC medals could be included at another part of the page?

I also see that someone (most probably the same person) has placed the "World Championships, summer" at the medal record, and I guess that is okay, but then they call the Biathlon World Championships the "World championships, winter" and they (he/she) also give(s) the Olympic Games the name: "Olympic Games, winter". That is incorrect. Something needs to be done with this medal record.

I do not know who added the medals from the Norwegian Championships, but I am not convinced that they are unnecessary. The very fact that he has won so many makes it noteworthy. I also do not see how to put that medal record in another part of the article without making it very messy.

To your second point, all the issues you bring up have been dealt with in the reconstruction of the article here: User:Newtonseple/sandbox.

In the meanwhile, I will do some patchwork to address the most urgent needs.Newtonseple (talk) 00:36, 21 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

why some say that Bjoerndalen has won the Biathlon overall World Cup in 1997-1998? Is it so or not? And why season 1996-1997 is not mentioned anywhere - who won then?

I've updated the podium stats from before the olympics started, adding the two 2nd and one 3rd he had in the OL. The eurosport commentators say that the results in the olympics do also count towards the world cup, so that's why i did it. Thorml 19:00, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've updated this page twice now with his current IBU world cup standings, but when i go to the page it's gone back to how it was, as if i've not done anything, what's wrong with this thing?! Thorml 21:25, 9 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've taken away the two olympic second places from his podium stats, becuase the IBU's website hasn't included them, and as they're the authority i'll keep to their stats. Thorml 01:41, 14 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

This statement is just plain wrong: 'Sven Fischer (and German skiers in general), who struggle and are more comfortable on fairly flat courses, such as Östersund, and Ruhpolding' Traditionally, the Germans are power skiers, who do best on the steepest hills, and do worse on long, gentle climbs. Ruhpolding is about as brutal as it gets, and suits the German style very well. Duncanbourne 16:44, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The words ", having become the most decorated Winter Olympic athlete in history" at the end of the introduction as they repeat the earlier statement "He is the most medaled Olympian in the history of the Winter Games, with 13 medals." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.27.77.117 (talk) 01:31, 5 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Currently, the article reads like a news-story, with too many bombastic words, and too much trivia (equipment?). I really admire Bjørndalen, and he's the most successful biathlete ever (likely, for the far future). However, it's sufficient to demonstrate it by listing his achievements, not by repeating "incredibly", "extremely", "best", in every sentence. Besides, there's too much trivia in the article, and the order of headings is wrong; the history goes upside down. Etc. Duja 10:37, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I haven't time quite yet to tidy this up, but i have just stripped out some exclamation points which i think just reinforces your point Ged UK (talk) 20:09, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Shooting time

edit

While Bjorndalen is not absolutely top notch in shooting accuracy, as the wiki article says, he is one of the fastest shooters. 5% lower shooting accuracy only costs about 8 seconds per shooting, and Bjorndalen about makes up for this with his high shooting speed. His speed at the shooting range is a very significant part of his success, and perhaps should be mentioned in the article about him?

Updates to numbers

edit

This guy keeps on winning and winning, which means updating the page becomes difficult. I've just edited it after win number 87 because the previous editor missed a couple of places. Also the number of 2nd and 3rd place world cup victories may need updating. Is there a way we can re-write this article (at least while he still competes) so that we can minimise the number of places that needs updating in the text? Tony (talk) 13:37, 17 February 2009 (UTC) Well it's not needed updating so much recently, but having just done so, there are still a large number of places in the text that need updating - 4 different places where total WC wins is mentioned. Though if anything, getting the podiums right is harder. Cpmcsweeny (talk) 12:38, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Eye guard

edit

The fact that Bjorndalen started a trend of putting pictures on his eye guard is interesting, but the other biathletes who have followed suit seems trivial given that most people seem to do so these days. Also, this list would need constantly updating and I'm not sure it's useful in an encyclopedia. I propose to remove the section. Anyone against?? Tony (talk) 13:37, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Anybody a wiki image expert and good at adding references?

edit

Hi, I have tried to improve the page and will continue to do so but I am no good at adding images or references so is there anybody who is able to do this to make sure Ole's page is as attractive as possible. He wins so much that it is hard to keep updated isn't it.

Overall record

edit

What does "top 10" mean in the Overall record table? Is it positions 1-10 or 4-10? Because if it is 1-10 (as I suppose), the sum in the bottom is probably wrong. Fomalhaut76 (talk) 08:30, 2 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Better summary needed

edit

The current summary (the paragraphs above the table of contents) is an overview of his early career, not a summary of his career in total, which is what entries are expected to have. Bjornte (talk) 22:04, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Major expansion of the page

edit

Hi, I am looking to expand this page, using the Magdalena Neuner page as a guide. If anyone have any specific suggestions to changes, this talk page is at your disposal. Anyway, I have a couple of propositions that I wish those interested to take a look at:

Changing the infobox from skiier to biathlete, I have an good example of what that would look like in my sandbox: User:Newtonseple/sandbox.

Adding result boxes for all seasons, like the ones now added to the article. Should we perhaps use DNE (Did not enter) rather than DNS?

Infobox

edit

Hey, i trimmed down the box to only major medals like WC and olympics. The norwegian ones can be added in the prose of course but are just too much on the box. Kante4 (talk) 12:23, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
